Diesel return pipe

Post by toddao »

Just seen that the pipe that returns to the tank is quite badly degraded where it passes through a hanger before disappearing underneath, round the back of the engine.
My questions are : what type/size of pipe/hose is this ( what do I ask for in the auto factors ) and how long is it approx. from the pump to its first union? It's perishing cold here today - too cold for fiddling about!
Cheers
Todd

8mm internal dia standard fuel hosing - approx 1m - should do the job.

Prepare to collect spillage when you open the fuel line.

Anders, thankyou for your reply, I will go and purchase and fit when temperature hopefully rises in a few days ( there's snow on the hills today!). I suppose heated workshops are a necessity in Denmark.

I've got a draughty old barn as a workshop, which is held up by the united efforts of millions of woodworm. Plus, since my little bike spill a fortnight ago I can't get down to ground level or underneath ( or around) the bleeding car, hence the question about length and diameter ( ooo vicar!). Still, mustn't grumble :-reindeer

If you're driving a diesel, make sure you get diesel-specific piping. Diesel is more corrosive to rubber than petrol and petrol piping won't last long.

Outside temp was up today so changed the diesel return. It was 8mm dia. approx 1.2m to hard lines underneath. Got squirted with diesel of course but while I was down the pit had a look about underneath - saw the main diesel feed is cracking but those pipes are thick b'stds so probably not urgent but must do soon. All hydraulic lines looking Ok and saw nothing else too worrying.. then spilt bio diesel in my socket set while cleaning up =D>
