BX Free to Good Home

Post by Diana »

A few weeks ago, when the MOT fell due, I decided that it was time that my much loved BX be retired and replaced. As I live in France it was time to switch to a left hand drive car. Had a newer BX been available I would have snapped it up, but since the one I am offering here is one of the last (I think) to get something significantly newer I switched to a Xantia.

So, what to do with the BX...

The MOT ran out in late September. It is taxed until the end of the year. Although I was in France most of the time I kept it legal in the UK - some English people here like to try to fall between the two systems but having been stopped many times on French roads I didn't fancy trying to explain why my papers were a mix of both - roadblocks are fairly common here, you don't have to 'commit an offence' to be stopped or breathalysed.

The car is dark grey, badged (meteor) which I think was a special edition in around 1991. It is on a J plate. The car has been serviced regularly by a Citroen specialist until the start of this year. It has around 250 000miles (speedo changed a year or so ago when the first one stopped working). Faults that I know of - the passenger side window slips - it has electric controls for the front windows and the mechanism has obviously gone on the passenger side. There are no leaks of LHM as far as I know but I suspect there is mechanical work needed to the front nearside suspension. The heating has been jammed for a couple of years, it is set to almost off and I am told it is a tedious job to repair this.

The car is certainly in need of a good service, the breakpads will probably need to be changed. I replaced the back half of the exhaust at the start of the year but the front part might go soon (no signs as yet). It will need two new tyres to get through an MOT or a CT if anyone wants to keep it over here. In fact the spare tyre is brand new, if I end up giving the car away I won't include this, but will offer it for 50€ or equivelant in £s.

I just don't want to take it to the scrap yard....

I've advertised it locally at 300€ but all calls that I have received have been put off when I have told them it is a British registered right hand drive car.

So, if anyone has a second home here and can do the work themselves to get it legal again, you are welcome to take it for free. Alternatively if anyone wants if for parts, again it is free. At the minute it is on a friends land and I really can't leave it there for a long period unless I know that someone will definately take it at a set date, in which case I guess that storage will not be a problem.

I need to sort something out in the next few weeks so if this car could be of any use to you please contact me, either by email:
diana@sud-loir-immo.com
or by telephone:
00 33 2 43 44 00 32 -work number, Tues to Sat inclusive, with French receptionist
00 33 2 43 94 91 20 - home number, Sunday and Monday and evenings after 7pm British time.

A bientot,

Diana

PS - the bodywork is not perfect!!! In particular there is rust around the sunroof - not visible unless you open said sunroof. There are also dents, though not huge, at the back where a lorry nudged me while I was parked in a narrow street - the dents are not huge...

And I should of course have said that the BX looking for a new home has a 1.9 deisel engine, non-turbo. Extremely econcomical..

Someone could surely give this poor car a new home??

Thanks,

Diana
