I'll bet you any amount you like that under all that evil underseal on in the front arches there's rot, and in the sills, and the usual places that cant be seen unless you hack a fair amount of the car away.
Not saying yours is a ripe dog at all, but there will be rot in it.
You just cant see it.

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Recent scruffy diesel n/a estate - "The Red Shed" - is no longer mine. - x 9
Totally in agreement on this, Doc. If looking at ANY BX nowadays I'd be checking rear sills - and especially rear inner sills - the last two estates I've had ('91 and '92) have had probs in this area despite other bits seeming OK. A lot of late BXs seem to be rotting from the bottom up.I'm really begining to wonder if there are ANY BX's left at all that are totally rot free
I do have a gut feeling that early series 2 cars last better on the bodywork front (especially in dull red metallic) but of course they didn't have the plasticised pipework then. However, even that is reaching the end of its useful life now on the late cars on the hard-to-reach bits (front-rears etc).
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

ANY BX's left at all without rot....yep....all four of our BX's are rot free and I'd put money on it. After all I do live on the dryest continent in the world.docchevron1472 wrote:I'm really begining to wonder if there are ANY BX's left at all that are totally rot free.
The answer is no I reckon, certainly non in this country
Certainly not in the UK would be a very good generalisation. It's all about the climate. You guys probably have times when it is just completely wet for weeks if not months on end, day and night.
Over here times being completely wet only extend to a week at most.
Most BX's here are also very very sound as rot is something unheard of over here. Plenty of good shells here, especially Mk1's bu they too are disappearing.

Thats kinda what I wa getting at like
It's not so much the rain, it's the salt tey sling on the road every winter.
I understand that in Oz they dont salt the roads ever, so as and when it does get icy, you all crash and burn?
Well, not crash and burn maybe, but it gets a bit slippy like...
Oh, and I still bet I could find some rust somewhere on your cars...
Even if it is microns in diameter, I'm bloody determined me!

There are only two or three places that get snow in OZ. We don't slip and slide cause it's not cold enough to form ice ever.docchevron1472 wrote:I understand that in Oz they dont salt the roads ever, so as and when it does get icy, you all crash and burn?

You're right, you might find a small amount of surface rust on a brake disc!

You guys will learn about ice once this global warming we've been promised kicks in!
Meh, 5 mins with a grinder and wire wheel, I'll find some rot!
And if I dont, you'll have a car with large chunks missing!
