Steering Rack Boot / CV boot

My weekend jobs are to replace the steering rack boot and cv boot, has anyone got any good tips boys and girls

Which rack boot are yo doing? One is not bad, the other is PFD....

drivers side (offside) steering rack boot, passenger side (nearside) cv joint

Phew - that's the easier one (the other side has to go over the stud for the PAS ram

). Never done one though...

Probably the easier one if you've not done one before. Don't mess about trying to do this side on the car though - drain the box, pull the shaft, and clamp it in the vice before you try and split the joint off.

I'm not sure about that! It's easier to free the outside end while keeping the gearbox end pressed in, cut the old boot off, fit a stretchy boot kit over a cone and reassemble hub. Jobbed in a very short time.

Above presumes that there are no other issues with drive shaft which need any remedial attention.

Don't be tempted to use one of the sticky boots, even though they look easy on the face of it as they are a lot of farting around and probably won't see you through more than one MOT.
