1991 (J) BX 14te St. Tropez for £200 !!!

Post by fatgeezer »

Hi - I must sell my St. Tropez by this Friday (30th)!!. It needs to go to make way for my new toy - a Mercedes 300se. MOT is till February 7th 2008 (spookily enough - my birthday) and is taxed all the way round to the end of July 2008. The mileage is just short of 78000 and has only covered 42000 from 1996 to June this year - you work it out!! She runs nice enough and has been reliable in the two short months that I have owned her. She is economical too at about 35-38 to the gallon at a rough guess. She is white of course.
There are a few small things that need doing - the hatch does'nt lock - the rear wash/wipe does'nt work (possibly just a fuse - I have'nt checked) - will probably need a new back box for next MOT (or a big wodge of gun gum) - the bonnet does'nt fit properly (it shuts securely but just does'nt line up properly) and the paint is coming off the back bumper revealing the black beneath. Second gear always engages but you have to wait a second longer than usual with your foot on the clutch before selecting or it will crunch. There are small bits of rust around the door hinges - but nothing too drastic.
On the good side - February this year had new front section of exhaust and new spheres (front I think) and some odds and sods total £327. 2006 saw some suspension work on front (not quite sure what). 2005 saw new rear spheres total £113. 2004 saw a new battery. 2003 she was given a new clutch £264 - a new alternator and the dashboard electrics were replaced. She appears to have been serviced regularly but is due for another about now.
Do'nt forget these were basic models with no power steering - no central locking - manual choke and manual windows (less to go wrong some might say). I'm afraid I miss my luxuries hence buying the Merc.
She has a glass sunroof which opens and shuts and does'nt leak and she has the rear sun blinds. The suspension goes all the way up and all the way down. The rear sits down overnight - the front will go down over the weekend if not used and takes about 12 - 15 seconds to raise itself to the driving position - if that means anything!!.
She is fitted with a radio/cd player (Wharfedale - £40 in Argos - nuff said - but it works!!.). There are two speakers in the parcel shelf but they are'nt wired up.
So there you go - a reliable little runaround with approx. £85 worth of tax on it and about two months of MOT - all for a paltry £200. If you go to page 3 of this for sale/wanted forum and scroll down to September 11th and find the posting by Mulley then there are a couple of pix of her (not very good ones granted).
Road tax is £115 per year for the little 1400 engine.
I am in Eastbourne - East Sussex. I can only accept cash and ca'nt really take any offers at this low price. Thanks for looking.

Can I respectfully suggest you remove your e-mail address and contact number from the advert mate? I mention it because scammers/idiots are getting clever these days.
Perhaps invite people to pm you or post underneath?

No problem. For some reason e-mails addresses are the worse thing to post up. I think the usual array of idiots can scan forums and pick them up. Next thing you know rich uncle Umbongo is mailing you every twenty seconds with offers of great riches.

Have decided to keep the old girl as the Merc turned out to be a sack of s**t!!. Will probably do the little things that need doing over the winter. Thanks for the interest.

Without a doubt the right thing. Fill uo the BX and you'll get to London and back a couple of times, with some to spare. With the Merc you'd be lucky to make Gatwick and back!
