High mileage for a highly strung petrol, no mention of engine work either, so he cant expect a high price on that one.

Go for it David :D

D6C's can acrue a HUGE mileage if they are looked after properly.
I've driven higher mileage valvers than that on original engines that were spot on.
I've stripped a few high ,ilers too, and they were in excellent condition.

All comes down to using really good oil and regualr changes, and using the engine as it was designed now and again, keeps things in trim.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Er, yeah, thats where it can be a gamble!

The bottom ends are bullet proof, even at that mileage, unless it's been run dry of oil I would guess that at worst it would want re-ringing, the valves seats re-cutting and new stem seals.

But the guy does say it doesn't burn oil, even so, I cant imagine it'd be long before it needed valve stem seals...
Either way, if the shells good, could be a storming car.
I'd want to look it over and drive it before biddingthough, satisfy myself the engine was ok and the synchro's good (especially 2nd and 3rd).

Too true, only way to tell is give it a thorough look over & then that all important test drive. Must admit, gave all 3 of mine a test drive & a quick check, but still didnt have one that didnt need something doing. And even had one with the cam eating the bearing cap, no way to check for that i guess :(

Any old car is a bit of a gamble..
Sure theres the usual checks, and generally you can get a good "feel" of a car from a drive, but time will tell in the end.
Either way, P1's are getting mighty thin on the ground now, and this could make a nice car, equally it could be a money pit.

So, bearing in mind the mileage, unlikely to test drive it or see it, how much is this actually worth if someone was likely to bid on e-bay? Got to be £600 tops?

TBH, valvers have been making poor money anyway lately.
Deoends how much someone really wants that car.
Puggers are moving on now.
So either you're an enthusiast that thinks it's worth £600 all day
or you're a guy after a car that has a bit of go for not alot, bearing in mind it's an old car.

Realistically I'd say £400 would be top whack, and even that would be a gamble since like you say, it's undoubtedly going to be bought unseen.
The lack of an in depth description doesn't help really.
Not saying the seller's a fraud, he probably isn't, but to appeal to the masses, and hopefully an enthusiast, there really should be much much more info given.

Yeah, i've noticed BX prices seem to have slumped. With the exception of some of the diesel estates, not much else had done anything, especially valvers. I think its the £1/l syndrome, no one wants petrol's especially old one's as they are seen as less efficient than modern petrol's (even if they arent).

I'm not surprised that Diesel BX's havent gone up in value either. There are loads of more modern cars that are diesel & under a grand, so no reason why buyers would want a car thats nearly twice the age when its only a few hundred cheaper....

Good news if u r buying, rubbish if u want to sell....

The cost of fuel will rocket now it's broken the magic £1 / litre mark. Especially since G Brown Esq seems hell bent on taxing us for farting let alone driving a planet destroying car....

A very grim age of motoring is about to dawn I fear, which, as you rightly point out, will almost certainly see off nearly all older cars unless owned by the hardcore nutter. Indeed, great if you want to buy a BX, utter sh!te if you want to sell one.
