BX19 GT scrappy find

Post by Boulanger »

Seen today at G.W.Bridges (http://www.gwbridges.co.uk/ ) yard in Sussex: a burgundy BX19 GT (B818 HYJ).

It's largely intact with good glass, panels, lights, trim, interior and the radiator is undamaged. The front fogs and rear spoiler are still present and there's no rain damage to the interior.

I've no idea whether the whole car is worth saving but there's far too much to allow it to be crushed.

Sadly im broke until February, wonder how long they keep the cars? But I need a speedo cable and a a few other items couldl come in handy, does anyone live near by?

Was there much missing from it? Is it saveable?

As I said, I'm no BXpert (2cv's are my thing but I have a passing interest in the BX :D ), but if you phone the yard first thing tomorrow morning and ask to speak to the salvage section (specialises in selling entire cars) they may be able to get it shifted to a safe area. If it's left over the weekend I wouldn't be surprised if the fogs and spoiler go walkies for starters...I nearly grabbed the spots for my tin snail myself

My cautious opinion is that the car is able to be resurrected, but it definitely would be a labour of love; it all depends on how rare/desirable an original B-reg GT is. At the very least it should be possible to save most of the parts and identity and resurrect it with the aid of another donor car. I've got photos, but at the moment my phone software isn't playing ball so I can't upload them.

Bridges is a HUGE yard, so if anyone needs directions as to where the car is in the yard then PM me.

I'll try and check for messages at least every hour during their opening hours
this weekend.

The reg B818 HYJ is not listed on DVLA database so presumably it has already been notified as scrap or the Reg No above has an error in it. :?

Good luck with your mission Tim, but in view of reg I guess you will need trade plates if it's possible to drive it back. :) Still you work in the right place to borrow some Trade Plates.

Go for it Tim, it'd be the ultimate save. Even if declared as scrap you can (I'm told) put it back on the road though possibly on a 'q' plate. I bet they'd hold it for you for a deposit and you could then (hopefully) make arrangements to have it transported/stored/repaired. Does anyone know if they'll sell it complete and if so how much they'd want for it? No good to me but Tim you really should have a go at this.
