BIO Diesel

Post by kermit the frog »

Does anyone know what if any modifications are required to run on Bio diesel.
and what tax breaks can you get if any.
If you run Bio diesel you should get something don't you think.

Also new cars have a grams of Co2 per Km rating is there an official way to test older cars to get this rating.
If your car is well serviced and running well and the reading is low can you get a certificate and lower tax.

Regards Kermit. :) :)

Kermit, tax is pre-determined by the date your car was manufactured, so anything (cant remember the date) that is pre the co2 emissons way, can never & won't be eligible for any lower tax band, u r stuck with paying whatever this cruddy govt decides it want to charge you as per your engine size....

Regarding bio diesel, make sure you have a bosch pump & it should be fine at 50% volume in winter & probably higher in summer, no mods required....however, see my post in the technical section called fuel problem, i'm not going to be using that stuff ever again, more problems & expense than what i saved using the stuff....

Still got approx 50 litres i need to take back to get a refund on....i'm not risking it again....

Try veg oil instead (rapeseed) from the supermarket, didnt have any problems when i used that, again only with a bosch pump & no mods again if running a lowish %, i only ran a max 10% volume.....

Seriously considering a fuel heater system so that i can run a much higher % of veg oil seeing as fuel is so expensive & veg oil is cheap....

If you really want to run veg oil in winter, try using Sunflower oil, it can keep in the correct state at a much lower temperature than rapeseed, the cold makes the oil go solid, so not a good idea without a proper heater system!!!!

Hope thats of some help?

You won't get a lower rate RFL but you can run on vege oil at 100% at times. I used to run about 85% vege/15% diesel without any problems and regulary ran at 100% vege when needed.

Cost more than the car does  i was only going to spend about £40 on one of those VOW units, not as good as the twin tank system but a fraction of the cost.....

Thanks everybody for your input it is very interesting to hear the different experiences of this bio fuel.
I may try the veggie approach when i get my repairs finished.
May be some delay there as i may have to have an operation on my back soon.
Still thats life

Regards Kermit :) :) (Keep smiling)

Work out what your payback time is. I calculated 11 months and a cleaner environment :D

I think it's all a bit irrelevant now with the Chinese doing their bit to destroy the environment.
I still maintain that the role of the car in Global Warming is so insignificant that it's almost uncalcuable.
The Stern report backed that up, it's a shame the governments of the world decided to ignore all the relevant bits of said report though..

Very true i'm afraid. Was reading yet another report today about China building a load of regional airports. For the first time in my life i actually care now.

The people might care, but since Gordon Brown is busy rubbing his hands with glee and jumping into bed with the Chinese, the Indians and anyone else he thinks can help our economy then it may all be a bit pointless.

No bad thing to break away from the bible belt inbred yanks, especially since the US economy is dire, but so is ours, and recession cant be far off now.
No coincidence that G Brwon Esq is so keen to get in with the two fastest growing economies in the world, and happily seems able to ignore all the human rights issues going on in China, and to a lesser extent India...

Troubling times ahead.

I have to say with some of the stories I've heard in recent times about the way the Chinese authorities operate it's a crying shame we have any dealings with them at all. Still, our double standards govornment won't lose any sleep over it will they?
