Free cars circa 1962-2008.

Post by mtbxathena »

This is a list of the cars and vans I have been given free, starting from 1962, whilst sat in a vehicle of the same make/model in car parks etc by total strangers over the years. 1962---1938 Standard Flying 9. and 1962 Wolseley 6/80. 1964---1957 VW Beetle. 1968---1957 Prefect 100e x2 1971---1959 VW split screen camper 1974---1962 VW split screen panel van 1978---1964 VW Beetle 1982---1962 Vauxhall VX/490 1990---1971 Fiat 500 1991---1964 Ford Thames 15cwt van +10/12cwt camper 1994---1974 Citroen DS 23 EFI semi- auto 1997---1978 Citroen Dyane. 2001---1987 Citroen BXV 1.9 Diesel 2003---1988 Citroen BX 1.6 Petrol 2008---2x1991 BX Diesels, [via www.bxclub.co.uk] Up until the BXs, all the vehicles where total rot boxes, due in part to Sheffield Corperations policy of over salting our roads in winter, but most were still being used on a regular basis. Evening all. In the early 70s split screen VWs were worth very little, as from 67/68 the later Bay window model was the one to own.Since passing my test in June 62 until present day I must have owned over 350 cars, all apart from one over 10 years old. The only brand new one was in 1978, a Citroen Dyane WWG 446T. £1850 on the road. Looking back, I think my success in attracting people to give their old bangers to me must have been looking skint but not down and out, and whilst tinkering under the bonnet hearing my kids or grandkids shouting come on we want our tea! Also dont forget that in the 60s and early 70s cars were just dumped by the side of the road as they were worth very little scrap. Best place in Sheffield to pick a free car? Wicks, B&Q and Netto. Regards, Mick.
