Charm, theres a charm about base models that your TZD's & your 16v's will never have, ok they are nice cars, they will always be more desirable, always command bigger prices but always be more unreliable.but why would this particular one be tempting?
I used to be into Triumph Dolomites, i've owned every model except a sprint, the most reliable?, without doubt a 1300L, nothing goes wrong because theres nothing to go wrong.

You get used to it Phil , to ge honest the only ones that have geniune grunt are the Gti & the Valver, the rest are kind of er sedate going upto Nippy....
However i'm quite happy with my 19 N/A, i drive it as fast as the rest of the traffic & use the available torque to keep the speed up whilst maxing the fuel economy, & its plenty quick enough on twisty roads to keep up with most cars, they really would have to be gunning it to leave me for dead
Never driven a 17 n/a, but i think it would probably be better than you think....

And turbo diesels too, I guess?MULLEY wrote:...the only ones that have genuine grunt are the Gti & the Valver...
I drove a 1.9 n/a for a while and it was OK, so maybe I'm wrong. After all having driven a 14 I was surprised how nippy it was!

In full agreement. Of all the many BXs I've had the 1.7n/a was by far my favourite. Uncomplicated, utterly reliable and simply amazing on fuel.
Vauxhall apologist.

Phil, the turbo's are just nippy nothing more to be honest, i raced a mini one diesel which has got less power than the bx & weighs more.
I did beat it but not as much as i thought i would.
Where the turbo does score over the n/a's is when its got 5 people in it with suitcases, you can tell the difference then.... but for everyday driving without gunning either car, they drive pretty much identical as the turbo doesnt kick in until about 2300rpm, so it drives like a 17 n/a below that....
