TXD Turbo?

Post by detheridge »

Hi folks,
I dug out an old BX leaflet today from around 1992 that listed a TXD turbo 'avaliable from May 92' Same spec as the TZD although offering a couple of mpg better performance -61 as opposed to 59 on the Z.
As I've never seen one, can anyone here tell me if they ever were sold in the U.K.?
Thanks, David.

I'd have thought a TXD Turbo had the same engine as a TZD T, but slightly lower trim level - fewer electrical toys - so the added lightness might explain the better fuel economy. Anyone else?

Possibly the different external trim too. The TZD had a front airdam thingymajig and a baby-walker spoiler. If the TXD has neither of these, it may do slightly better MPG. I can't imagine it would make a blind bit of difference in day-to-day life though.

hi, i have a Txd turbo this was the lower spec bx of the two just a rebadged tgd turbo but with a tailgate spoiler and gti interior they were sold in the u.k, as for how many were sold i'm not sure but they where the run out model.

both txd and tzd turbo's had the same engine and the difference in mpg as stu said maybe due to weight saving in the txd i.e no rear electric windows mirrors etc also it could be that the tzd had the front splitter which of course create extra drag.

cheers

I think its a lot more technical than whats been said above.

If you look on the boot where it say's TZD & TXD, i believe that the difference in mpg is in relation to the areodynamic drag of the different badges, i'll be swopping them over to test shortly....all findings will be reported back in the technical section...

You might be onto something there Mulley, I have a similar theory but I don't think it is the aerodynamics, as the badges are on the back and therefore drag will have little effect. I think it is the weight of the badges - the Z in TZD is made up of 3 lines and therefore will weigh more than the 2 lines that make up the X in TXD.

Hang on a minute, that would make the earlier RD Turbo uber economical...

... which it is. Theory proven. From now on, in order to make all cars as economic as possible they are to have as few lines as possible in their badges.

What's the CX with the badge that goes all the way across the back? DTR Turbo 2 Safari or something? The fuel consumption on that must be dreadful.

It could also explain why debadging a Corsa adds 20bhp at least, which, aided with a cone filter (+50bhp), drainpipe exhaust (+74bhp) and a bodykit (+227bhp) makes it the fastest car around McDonald's car park!

Nah it's just an attempt to avoid the public embarrassment of owning a Corsa.

Ah, but just think of that extra weight AND drag created by that towbar...

It would be interesting to see how far you could go with the BX to get the drag down...especially if you could fill in the shutlines as they are typical french, can get you fingers in between....

I guess making the underneath of the car drag efficient would help also, i wonder how many extra mpg you could get doing a steady 70?

Anyone ever done anything like this in the past or had similar thoughts?
