i was very tempted by that GTi - pop it on a ferry, bobs your banana i have a 2nd to add to my collection, so cheap as well. the pound is down against the euro now too. absolute bargain. why didn't i? want to get my tzd tip top first - driving but a few jobs to do. i know i'd be at the risk of putting them off if i had that GTi to drive around in.

BXs are so rare over here, i reckon there are about 20 in the whole of the republic of ireland. And one of them i see regularly in Dublin is French. Robin (citroen7) and Roger Porter don't count cos they're 'up there'

Amazingly I thought there would have been a last minute bidding frenzy for the GT. But the winning bid was just after midnight and the auction finished at 7am!

Kitch wrote:I think for the size, a BX is a great GT car. Compare it to it's rivals of the day and it walks all over them. I think the closest contender would have probably been the mk2 Cavalier as that was a bit of a motorway king. But the BX has the suspension and aerodynamics. The Cav does not (although it was probably more reliable back when rust wasn't an issue!)
Just to add to the mix, I have to disagree with that. The Mk2 Cav had really rather good suspension and even better aerodynamics if bought as a hatchback. Plus, you can't really compare a MK2 Cav with a BX as the Cav is a fair bit bigger than the BX.

IMO as a long distance tourer the Cav wins hands down. Granted the diesels were awful, but the petrol engines were fantastic for their day (and are still good now) with far more midrange torque than just about anything else. The driving position is better than a BX too, with better seats and a much more useable pedal arrangement.

The only things I don't like about the Cav are the semi-beam semi-independent rear suspension and the lack of a decent diesel. If it had fully IRS and a Pug 1.9TD in it, it would be a brilliant car.

... oh, and fix the corrosion issues.....
