Bx wiper....

Post by TheBig-D »

Aint it annoying.... When in heavy rain mine contanly smacks against the car and bangs.....Then in light rain it stops half way up the window screen on the pass side isted of going all the way down. Also seems to 'rub the rain in' insted of wipeing it off i've tried 2 sets of wipers.....

Is this a common pain in the arse problem..

Do you have one of those stupid "spoilers" on the blade itself? Not only do they not work in general, but on a BX they work in reverse as it sweeps all the way across to the driver's side, causing lift instead of downforce! They've been known to clatter against the screen....check for graxing at the top somewhere and if you have a spoiler blade, throw it away and get a proper Valeo one

Sounds like you have oil contamination on the screen. Give it a properly good clean and then polish with newspaper (very absorbent, will remove the final traces)

Made a massive difference to mine. (mind you it was covered in LHM)

Yeah, sorry about that

I hope the Range Rover owner still hasn't figured it out though

My tzd screen needs cleaning regular [like about every two weeks] .........I bought an aerosol can of "Traffic Film Remover" from the local "Pound Shop" [Poundland] .........[it cost a quid  ..everything in the shop is £1] .....it works.
btw .........if you like upsetting people,go into your local "Poundland" and make a point of wandering around the shop and asking the sales assistants "How much is this? ...and this? ...and this?" ............it really fcuks them off

It'll be the wiper motor getting tired, and a load of slop in the spindle bush.
Mine was like that for, oh, 10 years, and then I changed it the other week. I CANNOT believe the difference it has made. I can now actually see when it rains!
I got used to it I guess, and the buses in work tend to have truely awful wipers, so one just gets used to trying to look through the rain on the screen rather than clearing it!

Another handy tip is to regularly clean the wiper blade itself, i tend to clean it when i wash the car & then i clean it with some anti-grease stuff afterwards, its amazing what crap comes off the blade...makes them last longer as well....

I suspect that Doc has probably diagnosed the problem, combined with what everyone else has said as well, not good....

Doc
So you have finally fitted the motor from the boot at last.
Better ecconomy now unless you put the old one back in the boot

Only Joking.

Yeah, it only took 10 or 11 years!

The old one was consigned to the weigh bridge, there's no room in the boot for any more crap, it's overflowing as it is!

I know what you mean Doc .
The only difference is that the boot of my BX is full up with bits from the front of my BX as i attempt to overhaul everything i can at the moment.
Slow going over the last 6 months but i think i can see an end to it now.
Can't wait to get back to driving the BX again.
I have been using a mates nissan micra since i took the BX off the road and it is very uncomfortable to drive and only having a 4 speed notch box it is screaming it's head off at 70 poor thing.

Regards Kermit :) :)

If you should decide you need either a replacement motor/mechanism/bracket assemblies for either the front or rear, then I have both for sale at £10.00 Each + carriage.
However I am now away until the 16th with no computer contact unless you get me later today, Sat 5th.
Roy.
