Hey Big Spender

Post by toddao »

I just bankrupted myself buying these items on Ebay. I wondered whether someone was having a laugh hereabouts? I would have got these for 1p but 'bidder 2' put in two huge bids - one for 6p and another for 25p - so I've got to fork out 30 f'ing pence! :D
I'm not driving over to collect them especially - they're right next to a friend

Nice buy, I'm a little surprised there wasn't more interest; can't be too many good series 1 second hand wings floating around...

Maybe he started the price low to try and attract a flood of interest, I've been caught out by that before. A few weeks ago I put a brand new Rover V8 block and heads on ebay, starting at £50 with no reserve. With over 30 watchers I was sure the price would rocket.

It ended with 2 bids at £52. That'll teach me... And to make matters worse the guy who won it put in a bid of £300! Or I could have even weighed it in for £90!

Anyway, well done Todd on your bargain buy. =D>

I spoke to the seller last night and he's very friendly and aware that it's cost him more than he's making! He said : Sorry to make you carry so much cash when you come to collect!

He's actually a Citroen specialist and he's clearing out all his BX parts as he no longer has any customers with BXs  I'm hoping to visit him when I come over for The National..

On the subject of your V8 Matt - you have to console yourself that it went to someone who wanted it rather than got scrapped

Yeah, that's happened to me too. I've often started cars out with a 0.01 starting bid, in the hope that it will tempt people (but used a reserve, of course).

It's a fine balance... doing that can lead to a low price, but you don't want to make the starting bid too high as it will discourage people from bidding at all.
