It's a nostalgia thing. I believe we may have gone down this road in a Renault 5 quite recently...

DO NOT go there. Metroman indeed! It's the colour of paving slaps or old chewing gum YUK!. Shame it wouldn't protect you or your passengers as well as concrete. If I remember the Rover 100 was hastily withdrawn after it barely managed one star NCAP

Ace cars for what they are, I say buy it. Got a lot of bad press did the Metro (some of it deserved) but older ones especially have a charm of their own.
If people didn't buy/save/restor/drive cars like this then a) there wouldn't be any left and b) car shows would just be row upon row of cheque book restoration MGs, which, in my opinion, would be shite.

No no no! My father bought a Metro HLE brand new in 1982, that green metallic colour. It was the worst and most unreliable car that he ever bought, and went wrong in pretty much every way possible!

Sold at a great loss and replaced with a Dyane, he still regrets he didn't buy a brand new Dyane instead...

I learned to drive in a Metro... I thought it was quite good. Struggled to fit into it though :)

Nothing is permanent on a PHPbb forum... and of course, this is multiple registration....

Anyway. BL tin.

I still don't fully understand why the metro was so unbelievably rubbish. Theoretically it could have been a great car, but the driving position was worse than your average van, and anyone over 5'4" had their knees around their ears.

A good friend of mine when I was 17 was 6'2" and had one. I swear he had to unwrap himself from the car... and then the rear suspension collapsed.

Granted, there will always be a nostalgia for any old car, but some are best seen in museums where they can NEVER be driven again!

Is there a policy on multiple registrations?

It's generally frowned upon, as old accounts are generally closed because of bannination... every forum is different though.

*awaits guidance*

*prepares alternate usernames*

I knew a girl like that once. Very popular she was!

I'm sure the powers that be could reinstate your old account Tim...
Cant see it being a problem, and the dust has long since settled anyway.

So, multiple rego thingamy bobs... means I could register as "GOD"....hhmm......
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I have a bit of a nostalgia thing for old BL tin. But...

My mate's mum used to have a C reg Metro Vanden Plas. Gulp. In beige. Faded wood-you-believe-it trim everywhere.

Both my mate (who didn't have his own car) and I could never get used to the bloody gearlever lift-up-and-across to engage reverse. Why??

Most amusing Metro moment was seeing a yellow one at a filling station, driven by a rather large lady, with collapsed front suspension.

I lost my Metro virginity when I drove a blue mid-eighties one around the field at the Isleworth 2CVGB meet in 2003. Some chap had bought it off ebay for about 40 quid. I have to admit I couldn't stop grinning - it was rather fun. Mk1 Metros are uber-rare now. What happened to the orange one you sold, Billy?

Mark.
