Carb Vacuum pipe.

Looking at the engine on the TSX I noticed a vacuum pipe on the carb manifold. It is blocked off. Where should it go to?

Can you give us a picture of it Dave? - or more of a description of where it is? I have a BX16 with the same carb

The short black pipe in the photos is the one.

Demag sorry to be anal are you sure its not a 16TXS?

Err yes might well be TXS

Its been stuck on the drive since I bought it but when I fetched it it ran ok. I just think if there is a pipe there it obviously should be doing something. I had a look in the BOL and think there might be a vacuum attachment on the back of the dizzy. I'll check in the morning.

Hi Dave,

I've looked at my carby - mine doesn't have a pipe like the one in your photo, so I don't know what it's meant to be for. The hole looks as though it's blanked off. I was hoping the exploded diagram in the document below might help, but it doesn't.

The vacuum pipe from the capsule on the dizzy goes to a port on the carburettor body.

That same pipe on my 19GT is also blocked off with a screw and a piece of pipe, the car runs great and the autochoke is fine so ive left it alone.

Looks like the blanked hose is a reminescent from a previous vacuum (econo) gauge installation.

Vacuum is a great versatile power source for all kinds of small actuators, if its used together with a reservoir pot.
Like the "lids" gadgets for headlamps.
Note that most non hydraulic cars in the world uses vacuum for brakes power assistance.

Remove the hose and check if the stud can be removed. Then tap the hole and screw in a small bolt holding a seal. Then it will never bother you with a perished rubber blanking.

I found the vacuum pipe from the dizzy, its still connected and goes to the other side of the carb.

I'll do a better job and just tidy it up a bit.

Just to be really pedantic, but vacuum assisted "standard" brakes are still hydraulic, just not powered hydraulics...
