sloppy gearlever on 4X4

Post by cxprestigeauto »

As the subject line suggests!

She is worse side to side but generally you get to know the passenger's right knee fairly well!

Before I rip it apart is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix?! and Where do I get the right part?

Gawd, I look clueless at times!!!!

Nearest I've come to this was when I sold and delivered books: an older but sturdy gent whom I employed to do some deliveries managed to pull the gear lever right out of a 16RS....the AA put it back together.

First step I'd take is to look at the parts fiche PDFs for BXs available online and check whether the 4x4 gear linkages are the same parts as on other BXs, given that the gearbox may be just a wee bit different. I think the PDFs available include the 4x4, but can't remember or check as I'm miles away from my own computer.

Citroen dealers only for any parts, I'd have thought
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Most of he 4x4 gearlever parts are different - because the transaxle makes for narrower space. Some bits are however the same parts as used in the 2x2 setup.

2 bushings are provided for longitudinal stability. When worn the lever will be quite sloppy sidewards. These are :
95.638.712 KEY DIAM 8X12-12,15

You will need 2each of this part number. They are located with the cross bolt holding the lever.

BTW : the lever can not come up (as in Peugs or AX'es) because of this cross bolt fixing.

Having a long debate about metal fatigue with a small off duty czeckoslovakian traffic warden?
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

How did you know I work for the District Council? :D

Well just to prove that I do what I say I have sourced the required parts from my local Citroen dealer. I cleared out his stock!

Anyway actually spent last night wrestling with the timing belt, It didn't give up without a fight! Still waiting to get new drive belts for the HP pump and the alternator.

Still, slow but steady progress :)
