Sod's Law says' the water pump started leaking almost immediately
after he had the new timing belt fitted...

Mine needs a decent front bumper too - anyone sitting on a hoard?
White would be nice! :D

I think most of the guys on BX16V have the cars off the road just now Tim.

Mine is still in daily use though!
As you may have noticed by it's unkempt appearance last weekend!
I actually really did intend to polish it, but the weather's been so crap I didn't bother..

There does seem to be alot for sale right now though.
Maybe the price of go juice is finishing them off?
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

Are they really that more thirsty than, say, an 8 valve GTi?

Or is it the case that the engine encourages you to make the most of the performance? Certainly is the case with our 205, rarely below 4k! :D We get about 25-30mpg out of that though with a 1.6 GTi box, I would imagine the BX is similar as it is (slightly) heavier but longer geared.

hhmm.
I can get 42MPG on a steady run, mid twenties round town.
Cant complain at that I guess.

I avaeraged 36.7MPG over the weekend, which entailed balls out both butterflies wide open most of the way from Bristol to Huntingdon, a rather more sedate run home, a couple of days of trundling round town and going to work.
Not bad I thought, especially since I discovered today that the bloody reserve tank to main tank tube was leaking!
Fixed that rather sharpish..

Very good mpg that from a petrol Doc, i've managed 36mpg on a run in the 8valve & does about 30mpg driving to work & back. Its very cheap to run at the moment, as its not on the road

Diesel is for the win at the mo, 50mpg to work & back, even managed to keep up with Fearnies TZD on the way back from the meet & still doing approx 50mpg....

I found the 8V Gti fairly heavy on fuel, think I was only getting 27mpg-ish on a normal run and about 31 o the motorway.

There's not much difference between the 8v and 16v at all really. The 16v is much more sensitive to the throttle, so you can pretty much just rest on the pedal and it'll keep up with traffic.

Go balls out in them both though, and the valver will drink more....more valves means more air being drawn in, which is read by the AFM which then leads the ECU to increase the amount of fuel being injected to keep the mix right. So basically the more powerful car is fine aslong as you don't drive any faster than the less powerful car....makes sense that

As with all cars that age though, it is affected more by the condition of the car and it's engine specifically I'd have thought.

15 car transporter to pick up - surely not banger racers?

Hey Doc, 42 and 36.7 MPG on a valver? just think how cheap it would be on LPG! (assuming DIY fitting that is...)

15 car lorry means it'll be exported to Poland or elsewhere in the EU, I'd almost guarantee it.

LPG is about 120 Octane, so it should go rather well on it!

It's something I thought about for a small while, but right now it'll stay on 99octane unleaded.

The cost of fuel doesn't really bother me, I mean, it's a rip off, but so is everything in this country.

Oneday I might get bored and build a LPG system for it, but I rather like it standard TBH...

My Bx16V can also do 42mpg on a long run, it has a higher 5th gear as an overdrive which helps.

LPG is a tempting idea.

There is no spare wheel well in a BX, and an LPG tank may not be able to go beneath the boot floor, because of the lack of ground clearance.
A tank in the boot would be a nuisance.

The tanks are heavy, which is unfortunate as the BX is a very light car. A smaller LPG tank would help weight, and leaving the spare wheel at home.

It may be necessary to add a lambda sensor to get the most efficient combustion too.

It might be clever now, but it won't be in the morning!
