Interchangeability of BX front struts

Post by sdcoomber »

I have a 1988 BX14RE petrol which I hope to utilise the front strut for the one which leaks on my 1991 BX19 Diesel N/A. Are these interchangable and are they really as easy to take off as they look?

Finally, where is the pressure release?

Many thanks to you experts. (I also have a Turbo Diesel runner for spares)

when the system is depresurised jack the strut up tp its top to push as much fluid back the tank as possible then pull off the two return pipes then let the jack down and remove the 16mm pinch bolt at the bottom then i undo the 35mm nut on the top and remove the strut but a lot of people remove the top three 13mm mounting nuts, sphere and pipe and remove the sphere support with the strut which you must to remove the sphere to get it out. :D

I have removed a few of these now with no problems they usually only take about 20 minutes to change.

One size fits all, very fast to change too, I favour the sphere removal method myself.
