shades of BX?

Post by toddao »

Ok, I spent too long staring at the computer this evening while having a coupla beers . But this is quite interesting styling - not looking too unfamiliar. A Toyota prototype from 1978

And a Nissan interior from 1983

And a gif nicked from the Andre Citroen Club.de. I must get out more! Goodnight BXers!

Nice! It reminded me of this prototype that I read about last week. Behold, the Rover-Triumph SD2:

Echoes of the BX and GSA? Below is the Pininfarina-styled alternative version:

I mean, just look at those headlights - spookily similar to my eyes.

And of course, to cap it all off, a single spoke steering wheel.

Image

It all stems from the strikingly Citroenesque BMC 1800 and 1100 Pininfarina concept cars (1967)

which was scarily similar to

or vice versa!

Mark.

OK! Now I don't know quite how true this is, but I recall reading about 30 years ago, while I still owned a GS Pallas, that Pininfarina offered this body styling to both Vauxhall and Leyland. Vauxhall declined, and after the success of the GS gave us the....oh dear, almost hate myself for thinking the name....Astra - not a million miles away in styling.

Leyland, under Michael Edwards also declined and gave us the...uggh! deep breath, still hating myself...Maxi and Allegro.

Like I said, I don't know how true this all is, but I recall reading it in a motoring magazine while laying back on a bale of straw atop a straw stack, keeping out of the way of the boss!

That first Triumph prototype looks like an FSO Polenez! and the other Triumph reminds me of the Lada Samara. The one after the Triumph/FSO thingo reminds me of a Renault towards the rear end.

The Pininfarina prototype was named 'Berlina Aerodynamica' and it's where I got my username 8)

I used to have a Matchbox toy of the BMC 1800 Pininfarina prototype, and always pretended it was a CX

I have seen the SD2 prototype in the flesh and its quite a bit more bulbous that the slender BX but definatly has similarities.

Toddao, that first one loks brilliant but more like a CX than a BX. I'd have it though, something a bit different.

The resemblance of some of those cars to citroen's project L, better known as the CX prototype is stunning!

Here's a little diorama I made last year with my Matchbox BMC 1800 and
a Norev BX. The modernist house is a 60s model railway kit - wouldn't mind living there 8)

Blimey, I had the norev BX too, in white...

Still do actually. It was my favourite  Bought it at the British motor show in 1995 (I think)

I've still got them all, but I moved onto 1/43 scale models a while ago
