If someone fixes my TZD Turbo Saloon, i'll gladly loan it for the trip, but i would want it back though, as its a really nice one with quite low mileage.

I've now acquired a good GTi auto with high miles. She's up for it! Anyone interested?

How about a white Phase 1 pre-cat 16valve? with aftermarket wheels so it would look stunning if it was done up properly. And it is still FAST. It needs loads of TLC though beyond my budget and capability, so there would need to be a big group effort by the club, which I think would make the best story? More details later if there's some serious interest...

Seems like the Club could put something interesting together with that as a starting point. More details as to what's needed?

Bought on ebay and brought up to scratch mechanically by an alternative Citroen garage. Major electrical problems fixed after a lot of perseverance and a wiring diagram from Alan S. Months later developed a REstarting problem, wouldn't REstart when hot. SORNED while still MOTd about a year ago. Left for some months, started first time in that condition, but now nothing from the starter. When it was going it was happy to keep driving and I can't believe the current problem is a serious mechanical issue. Also when it was on the road it was noticably faster than my Phase 2 with Cat.

The paintwork is not good, rust round the sunroof, sills need attention. Nothing life threatening to my knowledge but not quite prepared for painting! I should be able to get some pics tomorrow.

So we have a tatty non-starting thirsty car to wash over ebay for a low valuation and then show what can be done.

With respect, I also have an 8valve auto which is a beautiful comfortable car and very unlikely to have been thrashed with the revs limited to about 4000. (I tried standing on the accelerator but never could get to 4500 revs in auto). Not many road users wanted to keep up when I used the manual overdrive. But the 8v scared me on corners! Phase 1 or 2, my own experience has been that the 16valves handle very differently.

2009, 2010...

Post by Jack »

Emergency update: my everyday BX has just been laid up with suspected head gasket problem so I'm expecting to hear tomorrow that it's time to put one of my other BXs back on the road.

As expected, the white 16valve started straight away - i hadn't realised just how dead the battery was. I will probably put this back on the road now. Just the warm (non)starting problem to cure.

The low mileage silver 16valve drives beautifully on every occasion (only twice in 18 months) but has only done about 100 delivery miles in my ownership. Just over 60,000 miles and looks good apart from needing two new front wings. I'd prefer to know what I was in for before entering this car, so I'm thinking 2010 rather than 2009 if I go ahead with this one.

The silver 8valve auto also looks good and has just done over 100,000 miles, about 10k in my ownership. This car has been mega reliable, but it'll need a downpipe and brakes before it goes back on the road.

My own interest is heavily dependent on attracting sponsorship, so FINISHING in 2009 has now become the top priority. Left to myself, that would probably mean the 8valve for 2009.

or alternatively, I would be interested to hear about any other BX entries that are willing to consider by my paintwork suggestions!

I have to get a BX back on the road for work! so I need to decide which gets booked in for MOT as soon as possible.

Please PM urgently to discuss if driving any of these cars appeals, or if you think we should concentrate any effort on an alternative vehicle. Is anyone serious about going ahead with this for 2009?

Hi Jack,

My focus has now shifted from the Gumball to something entirely more BX-orientated:

http://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9103

Still interested in Spring 2010???

An GTi 8v auto? Join the club! (mind you I get mine going virtually all the way up to the redline if I want in kickdown mode! So something might be wrong?)...

Hi Roverman - H506FEG - the same! I think it'll go on for ever, especially if it doesn't get up to that red line! I did get some stupidly expensive quotes for overhauling the gearbox but at the end of the day settled for the cheaper "if it ain't broke don't fix it" alternative. It's still in one piece (except for the downpipe) and under cover.

Hi Philip, Thanks for the link, and I wish you every success! I will most certainly keep it in mind for 2010.

The plan is to use the car to illustrate development films made in Africa (mainly Tanzania) on Aids, raising money for hospitals, war orphans, and other such issues. Extracts from the films would be placed on our web site.

We aren't comfortable enough with the S___b___3___ film and web site restrictions to enter personally as this may limit our promotional activities afterwards. So I have dropped back to some form of sponsoring or providing the car since I can imagine decorating might just be easier it it's mine. I will look forward to 2010 in France - hopefully without the SB3 media restrictions?

Meanwhile I could still do with something in 2009. If the consensus is that H506FEG will get all the way to the finishing line, let's hear it from two drivers please! It should still be good for another 49 rallies afterwards, maybe more if we don't get round to raising that rev limit!

Jack if you decide to sell on the GTi auto please let me know, I would have thought a manual BX would be better suited
