Shouldn't be too far. Just north of Matlock ath, very picturesque place. It's also not far from Bakewell which looks lovely but is, in fact, a town full of what appears to be mostly snobby, biscuit arsed small minded twonks. But that's another story.

But back O/T, this is cheap - with only 4 hours or so to go just a touch over £200. See where it goes, shall we? Or is someone here going to have a punt??? Red, not pink by the look of it too!

Well, here's a turn-up for the books. Apparently the buyer has not completed the purchase, and as second-highest bidder I've been offered the chance of buying it at my max offer of £350! Here's what the man he say:
hello mate, due to the usual high level of losers on e-bay, the buyer was not able to complete the sale. if you are still interested, let me know. viewing is possible if you wish. regards f.
I have 24 hours to decide, so would appreciate any advice especially on the matter of having to smite the air mass meter (whatever that is) to get it to co-operate. Here's the description in case the link in the original post does not work:
heres my citroen bx GTI. as you can see, she's a quite a head turner, and getting rather rare.

she is a smooth, powerful, roomy car, and out on the road the car performs well with no mechanical knocks or bumps.the hyraulic suspension is a delight and rises and lowers as it should.and many pipes have been replaced.

inside the car is tidy with no holes in the upholstery, and all electrics working i.e mirrors sunroof and windows. even the central locking works fine! and the original retractable blinds are still in the back as you can see. the original radio cassette is fitted and still works well.

outside the car is very tidy with only a couple of minor rust bubbles, and little of the paint on the bonnet has been touched up to cover chips.the only minor issue is the air mass meter sticks, probably through being stood, but a knock on top frees it off and away you go!

she has current mot to the end of march next year so no worries there.and the full v5 is present in my name. i'd appreciate a good home for her, not someone who's gonna break her for spares, as if i had time to tend to her i would'nt be selling! viewing possible. serious bidders only please, collection within 3 days of end. cash only.
I live in Blyth, Northumberland, so having a look first is a bit impractical. I'm of mature years :D , have had 2 BX's in the past but can no longer "get out and get under" and am definitely not looking for a project. Thanks, lads!

Mmm, don't think I would. :? but then I never do take second chance offers, some are genuine, some are not.

You can never be sure whether he was bidding to win the car, or was a mate trying to up the price...having said that, looking at the winning bidder's bids, they look like genuine bids rather than schill bidding.
I believe there is a way to view an ebay member's history with a particular seller, so if they are always bidding with the same seller it is a bit of a givaway. Unfortunately I can't remember how to view it - unless ebay have removed that option.

Frankly why would someone bother? It seems kosher to me; I do tend to trust my instincts and I've never been 'stung' on eBay despite us having a combined total of 11 cars bought and sold on the 'Bay.

Mind you, it's not my money!

I agree the bidding doesn't seem suspicious either. In the end, it's a nice looking BX with a couple of issues at £350. You have to decide if it's worth it.

Is the air mass meter version the one with Jetronic? If it is, there appears to be evidence that this is slightly less reliable than motronic versions.

The issue might go away once the car is used regularly, i presume that when he gives it a nock that there is something mechanical inside it that frees up? or is it a loose connection somewhere instead?

Either way, if you want a new part (if available?) then its going to cost, however, you should be able to pick up a 2nd hand part for not too much outlay, who knows a club member may have a spare for sale if asked.

Only way really is to have a good look at the car & see what it drives like, that'll probably make your decision for you. Best of luck

Being a Phase 2 it'll have Motronic. It could all be down to a poor connection somewhere. Whatever, it doesn't sound insurmountable.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your kind replies. It is a genuine offer via ebay.

I've asked the seller a couple of questions and await his reply. I've also asked the winning bidder if he copped out because of a fault with the car. Both parties involved have impressive feedback scores.

As it happens (!), my sister and brother-in-law live in Chesterfield but at the moment they are on holiday up here. I'm sure I could get a lift down with them when they return on Saturday. That would be a great help.

If truth be known, I was really looking for an estate but a GTi ... well ... nice!
