Quick question about paint codes

Post by Aerodynamica »

I'm hoping to get the code for the BX, is this it?
Image

The larger print? and can I use this in a paint mixing place? Previously I'd used the older 'AC' codes and had paint mixed.

That is the paint code, yes. Thing is, given the car's red and 20 plus years old, a match isn't guaranteed of course...

GKB = Rouge vallelunga = AC448

I don't know what the -S suffix stands for though...

Cheers,

Mark.

Thanks chaps,
a match isn't guaranteed of course...
- thanks Phil! not to worry it's for the bumpers only and I don't think they matched completely when it was new!

Well Here's how the front bumper had looked
Image

Got some of the old AC448 mixed in aerosols and a can of plastic primer.
Image

Removed the lights etc and this happened
Image

Lightly sanded and primed
Image

First few mistings of paint lots of waiting in between
Image

While waiting for layers to dry, I spent some time making a new height corrector bushing with a threaded section - this time not on a lathe but just using a series of stepped drill bores
Image
Image
I'll report back as to how this goes some time..

Several hours later
Image
masking off, and does the pain actually match? bonnet down for looks
Image
check out my profesional overspray on the floor lol

Seems a reasonable match
Image

Bits back on
Image
looks OK but need to wait till Sunday to see it in the daylight

Tada
Image
front bumper done - check out the difference to the rear bumper!

Well done Graeme, I had the front one done on the GT (see gallery) when it had a bump and it really shows the rear one up now, as they are painted you can try using a cutting compund but as they are textured its a right faff!

BTW I have plenty of spare headlamps if you need one.

I've had BX headlamps go like that too, Graeme. They're surprisingly common - I picked one up out of a huge pile at the National for £7 so make sure you don't pay over the odds for them!

I fixed mine when they fell to bits. Gave the outer & inner lenses a damn good wash & then used some builders caulk to seal the whole lot back togother again, much cheaper than buying 2 new headlights.

If the silvering inside the light has gone manky, then new headlights make a real difference, not only to the appearance of the car, but when driving at night, quite a bit brighter....

Thanks guys and yes! the silvering is going! One side light is much brighter than the other - thought it just needed pushing in again but it is the reflective silvering that's going... Need to wait till I have the cash and the car needs some attention to the pump or FDV or pinion valve or something to cure this constant hiss situation first! (though it has improved since new accumulator, LHM and reattaching the HP pump suction pipe.

I also need to replace those 2 smoked rear windows but just will not pay £60 each for them! I have tried everything to improve one of them and it will not go. So I have ended up totally wrecking the RH side one - it's now temporarily painted black.

What is the curvature like on the smoked windows? I wonder whether you could use a flat sheet of smoked perspex (if you can get hold of it) and glue it in place... Or perhaps clear perspex with a dark car window self adhesive tint film?
It's been a while since I saw a hatch close up but I think they are fairly flat.

Nice paint job by the way - looks LOADS better!

- you know Matt, I thought of this too! but it seems there is a subtle and possibly difficult to replicate curve to the panel :x

Afraid I'm not going to the NEC thing - just no time, no munny, no luck right now....
