Seems expensive to me, wonder what 'restoration' it needs exactly?

Yeah, wondered that myself. Transfer box made out of unobtanium and exhaust will cost more than the car itself. Be good to see someone take it on though.

If it is those components and they can be patched temporarily then a maybe a BXagon candidate with a 'pitstop' organized early in France to sort it more economically. :?:

Would be a great winter BXathon candidate! You'd need to Gumball Rally it Franco style!

Actually it'd be ideal for that assuming you could cobble an MOT on it before leaving as it'd be handy if it snows etc and there's probably more chance of finding spares in France for it.
Anyone?

Would you really risk doing 2500 miles in a 4x4 miles from home in all weathers? Your braver than me. If the transfer bx goes its immobile.

There are better BXs to spend you money on. I know it has been suggested in the past, but has anyone fitted a more relaible 4x4 set up form a Pug 405 in a BX?

As for BXagon, there is a very small chance of snow on the route at the time we're travelling... most likely rain or very cold. I'll be packing snow chains just in case though.

Yeah but if the octopus or high pressure pipes went on any BX you'd be stranded. Feint heart never won fair maiden and all that kind of thing. There's no point going on a mission like this if you don't trust the car, in fact there's no point in driving anything old or a bit different at all, so we might as well all go out and buy some wanky new car instead?
Yeah, there's bound to be better BXs out there but if this was priced at a proper rate it'd be worth saving. I expect they're a lot rarer than a 16V and this is the BXClub after all, surely we should be promoting this kind of BX as much, if not more than, any other BX?

You've made a good point there Billy, i agree we should be encouraging the saving of these motors, trouble is that not many are prepared to put in the work, so very few will survive which is a shame....

I still think a diesel 4x4 would be great :D

I *think* Doc had mooted the idea of a diesel 4x4 (sorry if that's wrong Doc)m but I seem to recall there was an issue with the transfer box taking the power of a decent turbo diesel?

Those cars are like hens teeth, and given that the French are not big buyers of top spec cars, I expect sourcing parts there would be harder than here. Plus the language won't help.
It can be hard enough getting the right parts for cars in the UK.

But if someone uses a BX 4x4 to circumnavigate France, they get extra respect.

I did toy with the idea, but thought better of it. It wasn't enough of a challange.

I'm still going for the 4x4 Activa 16V BX. For Winners mate.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

i seem to remember a 4x4 diesel estate on the bay a couple of years back, manchester area .The conversion meant that there was no dip stick to check the oil level in the transfer box.
I am in the fortunate position of having a choice of steeds for the bxagon the 4x4 (with spare box from a pug in boot) :) or the meteor diesel which i would love to try and do the whole thing on veg decsicions ,decisions, will make my mind up over the holidays now the dreaded frozen shoulder is on the mend and i can crawl around the garage floor and reach for spanners without screaming in pain!
