Drip of LHM

Post by Philip Chidlow »

Hi, I have a slight drip of LHM from one of my GTi autos. I am having difficulty locating the source. It appears to be dripping from the front n/s just around where the anti roll bar (?) is. I will clean up the area - difficult as it's pretty oily anyway - but as it doesn't drip when I'm looking for it, I could do with some pointers.

Overnight I got a patch about an inch wide on the cardboard I put down.

The level of LHM in the reservoir seems fine too, so I assume it isn't something major :(

Try the safety valve return pipe, it sits on the front subframe and is visable from the wheel arch, it has a 180deg bend in it and these sometimes split.
They think it's all over, it is now!

Or the rubber return pipes at the base of the front struts.

I'd go with the rubber strut return pipes as well, they have a nasty habit of spraying LHM in strange places, and it wont be obvious unless you do Citaerobics or have a damn good look see with the wheel off

On mine it turned out to be the steel pipe from the regulator to te security valve. this had an official Citroen looking pipe clip on ot which chafed through - on one of the coils. Unusual - but it happened!
