It's working now, the spring should have been inside the plunger not wedged up inside - well I assume that as it works nowelectrokid wrote:If it's working could you possibly give me your best guess as to how far the plunger moves in millimetres please - I've just had a thought that I might be able to use the solenoid for another project.
Best guess is about 4mm - I didn't half get some funny looks out the front while I was doing it as well

Well done for sussing the spring in the wrong place - I've never had one of these out to play with but 'wedged up inside' doesn't sound like the right place.
Hopefully some of the funny looks were blokes thinking 'whoa - there's a woman who knows more about cars than I do '
Thanks for the 4mm estimate - that should be enough for my project

I agree. Many of the boy racers don't have a clue what all the bits do Unless it's fake carbon fibre and sticky backedelectrokid wrote: Hopefully some of the funny looks were blokes thinking 'whoa - there's a woman who knows more about cars than I do '![]()

well I was going to put "you don't know what I'm estimating" then I realised that there was absolutely no way to make 4mm sound impressive
