I think the Octopus is now made in Poland, I'm not sure if that classes as "aftermarket", I'll let someone else get into that and best place to buy them from

unless I've missed something :?

So welcome to BXC Daren and could you please confirm which Red 'J' reg. estate you've actually bought so as to clear up any confusion !

Maybe best to put the E-Bay link in
or if it been discussed in another posted/thread (Maybe in the spotted section) put you claim to it on that posting) !

:)
hvanman wrote:Just to confirm, yes I got the eBay red J reg estate down in Devon.

I collected it today and drove it back. First impressions are good, very solid, but I need to check out a few bits on the front end, as there is what sounds like a worn bearing noise from the front offside, and a steering problem I think.

I have had a quick look at past threads on steering problems, but mine is pretty heavy at all engine speeds and is most noticable when going around roundabouts etc, so maybe the HP pump but I will try and investigate more tomorrow.

It's a very different car to drive than the 1.9 NA, but very sweet at about 85mph ;-)

Forget about changing the octopus unless its actually leaking, its a bit of a barsteward to do, but by all means buy both octopi just in case, should be able to get them from a Citroën dealer, however, GSF do one of them about half the price of a stealer.
Hi Matt, your statement does not make/read sense  as (hvanman) secured this BX TZD Estate !

As currently to date, Daren has only made two posts (With no reply/posting to my request), so how can you make any comment regarding the BX Daren purchased unless you've been privy to additional information (that the rest of us are not) :?

Yeah I'm confused too.

Simon aka hvanman lves in Beds and says he picked his one up from Devon, and the ebay link for this thread was in Kingsbridge (which is Devon), so the car in this thread must now belong to Simon aka hvanman.

Darren lives in Warrington, wasn't there one going in that area recently ?

Post by dyates2 »

hello all. its Daren- warrington. here are the events as they unfolded. estate in Devon, me watching on e-bay.3xoffers from other people declined. i then offered £700 which was accepted by vendor(roody262 from this site- did a bit of detective work)then went to work.-great.very pleased.we messaged eachother via the site and made plans to make phone contact(gerry-aka roody262) regards payment and collection, he was going to Hereford xmas week to collect spares that came with the car. even better.i would collect next week, i was well chuffed. Friday-contact via e-bay, no reply.Saturday came-no reply from ebay-mobile was rang and messages left-nothing !! odd i thought. sunday-messaged him via this site-nothing,rang mobile-nothing. he got back to me via ebay saying that someone had hit the buy it now (£795) in the last stages of the sale.problem is that was after he had accepted my offer,he had left the car for sale!! he appologised for not getting back to me-he had been away. new owner from this site said he collected yesterday-vendor must have left car keys under a flower pot for him- bit odd !!!

Post by dyates2 »

soz , ran out of space..Daren-again. he only got back to me this evening so ive been thinking i had a bx in the bag.well and truly errr gazumped. Oh well c'est la vie, problem is i will now have to disappoint a lady at work that wanted my car for her son as an xmas present(a red pug 205 with the 1769,xud7 engine). she will think i am a right feckker.
so there we are, the full story, all true and able to prove. that leaves me looking for another bx. i was going to put a bid in for the na diesel meteor on ebay but didnt cos i thought i had J 383 WAW(red estate) in the bag. ah well, everything happens for a reason, they say.
Anyway,i have found you all now and will keep my eyes peeled for the next suitable bx. is that nice silver saloon/hatch still for sale in leeds(it was september though)that needed power steering?

looks like the car briefly had three owners (seller, Darren, and Simon)

Very philosophical outlook on losing out Darren 8)
..maybe you didn't lose out, maybe hvanman may report problems with it

Bad luck, Daren. Something similar happened to me a few years ago when the vendor received an offer he couldn't refuse on a 16 valve that we had agreed a sale on sometime previously. This happened at the last minute and left a sour taste but the seller did have the decency to refund my train ticket - it had got that far

Anyway, your philosophical attitude is the only one to have and you will find something you want.

Was my Dad that sold the car, not 100% how it panned out as wasn't involved in the phone calls however from the updates I recieved from my Dad and by the looks of the messages exchanged via eBay the offer, from dyates2, of £700 was made to which a counter offer was made "how about if you buy it now I'll throw the tax in save me buggering about" refering to the £795 buy it now price for the car. However as far as I am aware this was not taken up by dyates2.

In the mean time the car was bought by another member of this site who arranged to travel down and collect the car on Saturday afternoon.

Rich, there you go then  I'd assumed that someone had lost out on the forum to Darren. Very philisophical of you tbh, i'd check your e-bay messages as it would appear that whilst you submitted an offer, that doesn't mean that it was accepted  Just keep an eye out for any future one's that come along, i'm sure you'll bag one.

Hi Daren, Simon here. Sorry to hear you missed out, Gerry just mentioned he had received other offers, but not that he had accepted one!!

As it happens, there are a few jobs to do on the red one. There is a very strange knocking noise from the front when the brakes (pretty new discs and pads) are gently applied, so far I have seen that the caliper slide pins have a fair bit of play, or maybe it is a drive shaft problem??

The HP pump is also knackered. It runs all the time and there is virtually no power assistance to the rack, so if anyone has a good used one.... I am in need!

It is a solid car and the wheels and tyres are great, just a pain about the pump, as I was hoping to get a car that did not need any more money spending on it for a while.

Good luck, they do still seem to be coming up for sale...

My thoughts exactly.......... The RD is having all the welding done today, so tomorrow I should get it back and swap and see if that fixes it....

hi simon, daren here,
you win some, you loose some i guess, so no worries. glad the car went to someone that will look after and appreciate it- that's the main thing. sorry that it has a couple of issues, but i am sure once they are sorted it'll be a stunner. hope to see it in the flesh if you get show-bound in 2012. I should have my first bx by then myself, i believe they are quite addictive.

The paint work will need a bit of work before it's really good, (that didn't show up in the photos!), but at least it is solid. They certainly are adictive and I'm looking forward to some events next year.....

The silver RD is not back, as while the welder was gently pressing on the sill, his hand went straight through!! so now two 9" long sections to be repaired as well... still, at least all the rot has been taken out now, so a solid, basic car again... just have to put it back together tomorrow hopefully.
