It didn't, he only stuck it on there to see how much it was worth.

he only stuck it on there to see how much it was worth.
That sounds stupid - what would he have done if it had sold?

I can believe that he's got it running at 300bhp, but if so it's probably why it hasn't been used much, because an engine putting that much extra power above standard is likely to have had it's service life seriously compromised. Unless you have really deep pockets a car in that high a state of tune is really for posing with at shows while bragging about how much power it develops, not for actually getting out there and using it.

As for BX Club talking down the value of the cars I don't really see it. There are a few long standing members who bought their cars when values were at their lowest so naturally base their valuations of cars on that, but there's just as many who maybe value BX's optomistically. This isn't something that's peculiar to BX owners - I don't tend to buy 1920's bicycles for my collection these days because the ones's I have each cost me less than £40 each, and are probably worth a couple of hundred or so now, and to me it seems wrong to pay that much.

I think that BX's will be worth big money one day, but with the exception of the valvers and possibly the other GTi models, it'll be a long time for all but the best examples - good GS's can still be had for less than a couple of grand, so BX's have a way to go yet.

I've no problem with the car, i'd cream my knickers if i had all that stuffed under MY bonnet.

The owner is the issue, if you use owners forums, you hav to be able to take the rough with the smooth, not EVERYONE will like EVERYTHING you do to any car. Just because the community doesn't fall to it's knees in hommage, doesn't mean you should throw your toys out. I suspect (now that i have a viable workshop to get on with it) when my 16V is finished, it won't be everyones cup of tea, but that's their perogative!

After all, saying "it was nevr for sale, just testing the market" is a bit pointless as i'm sure it actually WAS offered for sale on the 16V forum a while back. A simple answer to "why buiold it and not keep/use it" would have cleared up any scepticism, after all, that's where the vast majority of the issue has arrisen.

I also would be surprised if 300bhp was reliably attainable at 1bar, but i'm not buying it and even if i had the money, it would all go into mine, because that's the one i'm attached to.
I have zero patience for your tedium.

I only mentioned the power thing because I see it all the time at work when playing with the dyno. People turn up with a modified car, and 8/10 times it ends up being nowhere near what the owner thinks. They often run rough as shit too.

That's not to tar all with the same brush, and if this is the same car as on youtube, then it clearly runs quite happily. Nothing to suggest it's been tuned up badly, but superchargers aren't the most efficient way of cramming more air into an engine, and if it's managed to double the the energy the engine can produce, at only 1bar? Well, it'd be very good going! Truth be told if somebody actually had bought it and brought it down to me, I'd have been on cloud nine if it did crack 300bhp. It'd become a pub story! A BX with 300bhp!

But the car, as a whole, in my opinion alone (which is all I'm qualified to comment on) isn't for me. Don't like the bumpers, or the wheels. I like the way they get down the road as a standard car too much. An Activa? Yeah I'd go nuts on an Activa, but not the BX.

Just all my opinion, it doesn't mean anything to anyone else. I guess he's just a little bit sensitive - he does sound pretty young judging by his level of 'insults'.

I think if you go and have a bit of a Google, badlyworntoy has written up most of the details of the build, albeit in a range of different places. And going by the pictures attached to some of the write ups, it looks to be a pretty solid bit of engineering. I certainly have no issues with the quoted power figures, especially given some of the lengths gone to in order to build up the engine.

If Allards can happily get 350bhp from a 1.5d, 250bhp from a 1.9 petrol is hardly unrealistic. Though how long the engine would live is any ones guess.

I've always found 'badlyworntoy' to be a bit lost and mixed with the wrong group. A BX, even a 16v is not a showy super powerful car. Most of the owners on the BX16valve forum have owned there cars for over a decade and have them as a little distraction rather than a way of life. In the same way that I have a BBC Master 128 with a built in hard drive and a lot of mods, its not valuable. If I wanted something super powerful and a bit showy, i wouldn't start with the super flexible chassis of the BX.

For most i think the BX is still as it was intended by Citroen, a cheap hack to get from A to B. Hence keeping them running on a shoe string for most people, and the low low prices. Its a low cost love affair.

All that said, my BX is and always has been available for sale at the right price. But you wouldn't want to know what the right price is!
