Also including 'spares car' - or what's left of it (my old J-HUF, which was bought apparently purely for the bumper stripes).

Re: Supercharged GTi for sale.
Seen rather a lot of this one about since it was done. The one thing that has always concerned me is: Why "badlyworntoy" spent all that money and effort on it, but has never really used it at all?
Otherwise, very nice motor, come a long way since i had it!

Re: Supercharged GTi for sale.
What the hell's with the bumpers?! Looks like an old Volvo! Or for anyone who watches Family Guy:

If anyone on here buys this, I'll dyno it for free to prove to myself that theres no way that is kicking out 300bhp. He's spent a few quid, mind, and there's lots of good gear on it in the pics. But for me? No way, prefer them standard. If I wanted 300bhp I'd get a Tuscan.

Think I touched a nerve:

If I re-read what I wrote, I'm once again guilty of speaking what I was thinking, rather than being a bit more diplomatic in my approach. Seem to do that quite a lot! Don't think an apology is required though
Has he got a point though? If you read one of his war and peace efforts, it mentions the value of the BX being talked down by people on here (obviously we're taking the view that BXC is the biggest BX community, and that it has the biggest impact on values of any collective). What does everyone think on that?
I'm in two minds. On hand I'd like the cars to be worth a bit more, but on the other hand they're so easily accessible because they're so cheap. It's not hard to get into them, and not hard to run them. There are plenty enough classics out there with crazy price tags (check out anything with the blue oval, and all the Ford guys having a fap over a 2dr shell of a completely average 1.3 RWD car from 1977). We don't need the BX to go the same way, do we?
Not that it ever will. Contrary to his belief that the values of cars are low because people on BXC exchange cars for not a lot, combined with the turnover created by spares being so low, my belief is that the BX isn't worth much because it isn't very popular. Just like the Montego, 80's Honda Accord or Mazda 626, to name several. If demand goes up, the price goes up. It's that simple. Supply is gradually reducing, so the flip side to that is that demand is slowly climbing, and that's reflected in the fact we've seen values gently climbing over the last few years. I paid £770 for BAH in 2004, but if I spruced it up I could probably stick a one on the front of that now.

Re: Supercharged GTi for sale.
In principle I agree with Kitch. However the BX has the wild card of being substantially different to anything else due to its suspension. Citroen killing off the suspension now finishes that on affordable cars. This means the pool of cars for a niche market will be set and can only diminish. The question is how many people are into that niche market and at what price? If you go later, the cars are more complex due to stupid electrics. If you go earlier, the cars are more complex, due to mechanical design. The BX is the beginners bouncer, possibly. It will probably not ever be an expensive classic car, but it will be the odd one out at classic events. It will create comment and reminiscing on a grander scale than its more anonymous piers. The other mentioned cars are, well, boring.
There remains the GTI. Plundered for engines, driven to scrap, these are rather rare and I think could become a relatively sought after car, for those who are real car aficionados. If so then I suspect the top range spec ones, in good condition, could reach a surprising premium in some years time.
Is a BX an investment. No I doubt it, but it is a car you can use with the expectation of not loosing money on its resale to purchase price. So used and maintained wisely it offers great potential as a cheap car to run. Its chief cost damage is for the oilers who pay a hefty road tax fee. Personally I can justify that as it is better than so many other cars in the same price group even adding £250 on the purchase price. I cannot comment on the smaller capacity versions but it is the suspension, and to a lesser extent, the distinctive shape, that marks the car out, not the power unit, until you choose to purchase one. Several of the later options do not have the Citroen look and I cannot see them being as successful long term. The XM does but is fraught with gadgets that did not have reliability from the word go, nor the economy of a BX, as its heavy. You pays your money and takes your chances.
