Well, I've just seen the car and met the owner. I don't think he's happy to let it go for even the £1250 it's up for. After some thought, I'd probably agree - if it was ABSOLUTELY perfect and had a few things to enhance the 'package'.
At the risk of seeming utterly unreasonable (the car certainly belied its age - and the mileage seemd perfectly believable) here's my verdict:
I have to report back that although very tidy indeed, it was not perfect. The oil guage was u/s. There was a dent on the front n/s wheel arch (he knew about it but as there wasn't any paint broken thought he'd leave it). The foam in the rear vents was crumbling away. The bumpers were slightly streaked with age, but overall the body and paint were superb. The interior was 'as new' although the top of the dash where it runs along the screen vents looked a bit aged and 'bumpy'. In some respects what let it down in the desirability stakes was not what was there, rather, what wasn't; the lack of original alloys (I don't personally like the earlier, wobbly GTi trims), no sunblinds on the rear shelf. No rear headrests.
I think anyone would be challenged to find a better 'unmolested' example. But it left me strangely underwhelmed...
(I think he should sell it at £1250 or more if the bid comes in, I know I would!).

I take it no one on this forum bought it? Someone from CCC perhaps?
Thats a lot of money if u ask me, i have the same model with some of the extra items missing from this one & mine only cost £310 & it came with about 86k on the clock, is 70k really worth £1200 quid, i dont personally think so, now if someone famous owned it, then thats a different story.
Infact, does anyone know of anyone famous having owned a bx? & if so do they know the whereabouts of said motor?

At £1500, I would be well chuffed had I bought it.
That's a good car that will easily see 10 years more use and will need a lot less attention than a typical 100,000+ mile example.
Parcel shelves, headrests and alloys are cheap & easy to find and fit.
So at £150 a year depreciation for 10 years, that's cheaper than walking.

I think I saw a feature in a 1989 issue of 'Frontlines' (the one introducing standard ABS equipped BX GTi) with hime and his BX in... The reg will probably be there and we can check up. Am I right he was nearly killed by a tree falling on top of him? Was he in the car at the time?

I seem to remember he was driving at the time and the tree came through the windscreen, doing all manner of damage to him. The car was most likely written off as there's no doubt that it was cut open to get him out.Philip chidlow wrote:Am I right he was nearly killed by a tree falling on top of him? Dunno if it was his BX or not though.
