BXs in France

Post by sdcoomber »

I spend half the year in SW France. It is easy to get a CT (2 yr MOT) in the rural parts and tatty cars are quite common. The French don't mind as long as it is diesel as most of them run them on heating oil. (Heating oil in France is the same as Red Diesel - it is NOT the same in the UK)

Consequently, s/h cars have a far higher value. Also there is a large number of illegal hunters. If caught (rare) the National Police impound and scrap the car. So most French hunters have a decent car and an old BX to go weekend hunting.

Our local garage charges around €100 per day labour, so it is less costly to keep the heaps going. I have one in France & one in UK. BXs seem at home there.

BTW It is nearly impossible to convert to LHD & you have a £250 registration fee as well.
