Billy, the 2.1TD Xantia really isnt the one to go for mate. Mechanical parts tend to be DEALER only. I've had a lot of debates with 2.1 Xantia owning CCC members who rave about not being able to get silly little service items even from Citroen without a 3 day order delay.
Go for the 1.9TD, there everywhere and as you know they're a cracking lump if a little underpowered in a big Xantia estate.... (dont shoot me for that comment!)

Thanks Ian, appreciate the comments. 1.9TD ones would also be easier and cheaper to find I imagine? It`ll need to pull a bloody big (18 odd foot) car transporter trailer c/w car obviously. Speed won`t be an issue as long as it`ll pull it along about 60mph and go up/down steep hills if neccessary. Are the Xantia autoboxes weak do you know? An automatic 1.9TD estate would be great!

I dont believe they ever did a 1.9TD auto. 1.9D definately, yes. Either way, i wouldnt tow with it. They are nice boxes but they get very hot towing.
The Xantia isnt necessarily the best car to haul enormous loads with. You'd be better off with a larger car/van if you wanted it specifically for towing with.
I know people have towed a Xantia on a car trailer with another Xantia (have even seen it done) but i cant honestly see that Mr Plod would see the funny side.

They`d have to stop me first. I don`t think they`d have a problem catching me but I reckon they`d be sorry if they pulled up sharply in front of me!Ian_Fearn wrote: I know people have towed a Xantia on a car trailer with another Xantia (have even seen it done) but i cant honestly see that Mr Plod would see the funny side.
A 1.9 n/a, especially an auto, Xantia would be painfully slow I reckon. Seen a nice looking estate on the bay but it`s in Dublin and there`s all the arsing about with ferries and the associated charges.
I`ll hang fire for a while I think.

dont get me wrong mate, it's all said in jest!tim leech wrote: Hope were not going to start a " the bx is the only citroen worth having arguement again"
I dont personally like Xantia's but have no issue with anyone that does, that said the V6 and the Activa are ok.
I like lots of bizarre things that other people dont, life would be awfully dull if we all liked the same things.

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I had a 2.1 Xantia estate which came in chop for that BX TZi I sold a month back. It had a sheared aux belt which has now been replaced, along with the cambelt and tensioners. Lovely car with alloys and suede leather seats..I sold it to my mechanic who now wants £650 for it. It's R reg in silver. Xantia's just don't say that much in terms of style though reliability wise they are relatively good. They make up the bulk of what I buy and sell. I never have a problem selling them even the rare 1.9n/a Diesel I sold for £550. It didn't even have electric front windows!!
Until my 1.9 BX Diesel Auto is back on the road i've been using a TRS Auto but I've taken a Xantia 1.9 TD in chop which i'll probably use this month once I have it MOT'd..
Unless billy you want it for £150??

Heres a pic (ignore the date)
From what i've seen needs a couple of tyres, bottom ball joint, passenger mirror, new fuel filter, and front discs. I have all these bits. Otherwise I can MOT it and have a deal with your BX GTi?

Fair enoughski Chris Im just pointing out that they do get alot of unfair press from some Citroen stalwarts (noone here) saying there not a true Citroen. I know alot of people rate the C5, its replacement but I personally think there so ugly compared to the Xantia/BX.docchevron1472 wrote:dont get me wrong mate, it's all said in jest!tim leech wrote: Hope were not going to start a " the bx is the only citroen worth having arguement again"

Dont get me started on C5's!!!!
ever tried changing the headlamp bulbs $%%$^%$^%$^%$£^%$^!!!
That said, the C5 is a nice drive and the S2 does address some of the styling issues, but its still bland to look at!
Thats what puts me off the xanty to a certain degree, it's very jelly mold, could be any car from any manufacturer.
Although I've seen a couple of face lift xanties in white that look really nice.... as I'm overtaking them in my BX!!!
Cheers

I ran a Ph2 Xantia for about 5 months. Was a 1.8i 16v LX petrol in white, so not a particularly desirable one! Was a good car, and very reliable, but got a bit dull after a while. That said, I can't fault the deal I got on it - £530 for a T-plate car with 45k on the clock. No history because it was a repo'd car, and a bit of a dent in the rear quarter, but it did me proud - especially when I passed it on for £1100 five months later!
