Hi everyone,

Well Im putting my hands up for being the one who bought it. I went to view the car on Friday and was surprised to find how good a condition it was in. The seller said he was open to offers and so one was made. I'd like to apologise to anyone else who was considering purchasing it, until yesterday I was blissfully unaware of this forum's existance, having stumbled across it after finding the 16v forum. I had to wait until I was activated today before I could post the situation. Not the way I had hoped to introduce myself, but at least you know the car wasnt snapped up by some Pug owner for its engine.

Anyway, the seller was very honest and was in the process of moving house and so had lost his garage and needed the car gone swiftly. He said his neighbour had left her handbrake off and rolled into the side and as the car was sat on the ground, it hit high enough to pop the window. The car wasnt put through insurance as it would have likely become a write-off. The chap's brother had owned the car before him, who was a mechanic at the Warner's dealership here in Gloucester.

As for the car now, a door has been temporarily put on, ideally Im looking to track down a red door with colour-coded strip. Other than that and a few minor stone chips, the car looks well. After I've finished cleaning off tape residue I'll upload some photos. The leather is in good nick with no tears or rips. The engine smokes a little, which we had noticed before buying and with prior experience I suspect it's just seals, so she may well be treated along with a new headgasket while everything is off. It drives fine though. It's M.O.Td until November and currently SORN.

More to follow soon.

No pugger has had his mits on this one Chris.

P.S. You can see how long it took me to write the post above, you've been, posted and gone before I'd finished

Blimey, hello Dom!! Fancy seeing you on here!

In that case it's all worked out for the best, and I've no doubt it'll have a very good home with you guys. Is it down your yard?? I might pop by sometime!

You got yourself a licence yet mate??

No offence taken at all mate, glad you got it. I'd just have prefered the seller to be honest with me rather than ignoring me.
Still alls well that ends well, I take it your bro's still got the SM??

Hope your all well mate, and no doubt I'll see you at a rally somewhere soon!

Cheers
Chris G

Well it was Andrew who parted with the cash, but I spotted it, talked the old man into looking at it and then finding a space for it and I think Andrew has enough projects already, so its a little something for me to do really. Plus Andrew didnt get me a birthday present... We've put a red TZD door at the mo, but the colour is ever so slightly different.

While I remember, on another topic altogether, theres a small vintage show in the field beside the garage on the 19th & 20th of May, Im not sure how your fixed up, but Tony's in charge of the commercials and if you wanted to bring a bus along you wouldnt have any trouble getting in. Or you could just come down in the car, if you fancied it.

Sounds like a good plan to me mate!

If I come across a venetian red drivers door I'll pop it down to you, I might have one left, or I might not, honestly cant remember!

Yeah that sounds good, should be able to bring some cars and a bus or two!

I'll pop by before then!

Belated happy birthday!

Cheers

Well, much to my annoyance it's been decided that the 16V needs to go (along with some others) as we have lost 2 parking spaces in an already overcrowded place.

P.S. Thanks Chris, I had a good birthday and I'm finally 18 & time for me to buy a round of drinks...............just the one though, lol :D

Best of luck mate.

Idid drive past your yard last night, but it was about 0400 this morning, so I didn't pop in for a coffee! But next time I'm passing on a week day I'll come and pester you all!!

Hi Dom,

I'm the chap who emailed you from ebay - funnily enough I've managed to track you down to here. Small world! I got your reply and am just thinking about finances at the moment. Also need to see if I can find someone willing to do the seals for me! But i am very tempted by this beasty.

I'm assuming it drives well, the suspension all rises as it should, and it's solid in terms of rust? What's the bodywork like?

Go capri go! Or you could buy some of that stop smoke additive which apparently works well.

  Like I say, I'm still not sure. I know I want it, it's just whether it's financially a sensible move - I already have a diesel which is cheap to run and a Capri which is expensive to run... I don't really need two cars which are both expensive to run! But I have always wanted a valver, and I've got the money to buy it at the moment... decisions, decisions!
