You guys have not driven a CX enough. A mechanically well sorted one, day in day out in all conditions beats a BX silly on every aspect of driving. The thing will cost you more over the same period though.

And I like BX's a lot, having owned 5 of them. Diesel petrol and 16v.
I do agree Matt, I'm just refering to a CX's ability to dissolve before your eyes, and how difficult some jobs are that just shouldn't be.

From a maintenance point of view, I'd rather change a rack in a BX than a CX, and of course BX are easier to come by.

I love driving CX's, and theres a few in the "group" that I look after and get to play with, I'm just very grateful I dont own them or have to put my own money into them, although I did put money (quite alot of) into my mates turbo GTi, but thats a real special car, and he's my mate so.....

I think you have hit the nail on the head there Doc,

Troublesome and expensive but whilst they are working as they should, i think, more capable.

Im not going to get into the whole this car is better because of this or that.

I have poured money into CX's in the past and i do have a S1 Gti Turbo myself again now and this one will be scruffy yet mechanically good when i've finished.

I have it has to be said on occassion (especially with the first black 16v) poured money into a BX too.

I have no idea how many DIGITS were made in total, but I do know that every main stealer was given one, and they were given away as prizes, so there must have been at least 50.

Matt, I agree totally, I've spent silly silly money on the valver, and there can never be a winner in the which car is better debate, horses for courses. If I had unlimited money, I'd have a CX Turbo, a Traction, an SM, a DS....the list goes on!

Infact if I win the lottery ten times over I'd beg Neil to sell me CGAT, that is the best CX I HAVE EVER SEEN EVER.

Anyway, back on topic, my original point stands David. I hope you keep the car, but if it must go, I'll take it on, although I'd only ever consider myself it's custodion, I'll always consider that car yours....

Unless someone else has the financial capacity to do it this year??

Cheers

Well then. There has been a turn of events that means I may well be able to hold on to it for the time being.

For the last 9 months, I've been working away, in wales, on this.
My short term contract came to an end just over a week ago, and I was looking for something else. I took another job, still working on the pipeline, which would have meant working 70+ hours a week.

Today was the first day of that new job.... and I've never been so miserable and depressed in all my life. I AM quitting in the morning. I don't care how well it's paid. I'm still quite stunned at just how crap and pointless the job was, so do please excuse the whinge.

This is good news for the Digit though, as I'm now looking for something with far more sensible hours, which will mean I can actually have a life again, and have time available in the evening/weekend to do stuff that I actually want to do.

Thanks for all the words of advice about keeping the car.

Just for completeness... the Digit model. As far as I can tell from a fair bit of research, it was only actually sold as a "DIGIT" in France, Netherlands and Germany. In the UK it was only ever badged as a 19GT (as mine is) but with the Digit dashboard. I've since bought a french "DIGIT" badge for the back of mine. I believe that the UK ones were only available as part of the special promotion in Citroen garages in 1985, rather than those on the continent, which were sold as a special edition model (like a meteor or similar)

I believe there are now only 2 or 3 left in the UK.

David, you've made a brave choice. No job is worth giving up your life for. Your bank manager may not agree, but you've done the right thing.

I'll stand behind what docchevron said - it is YOUR car and while I'm in no position to do so, I would have made the same offer as him if I was. If you see what I mean.

It's a special car and you know you can count on forum members to do what we can for it, but I don't think any of us want you to part with it.

Soooooooooooo..... will it be road-legal by the National?

Thank F*&k for that! I mean that in the nicest possible way, I had already made plans to dispose of the valver and amass bits! You've saved me and the car in one fell swoop!

I must say David, thats one really impressive pipe you got there matey!

No job EVER is worth being miserable for, it dont matter how well it pays, so good on you!

If you need any help whatsoever with the car, let me know, I'd be only too pleased to help, and get it on the road ASAP.

But above all I'm really glad you're keeping a piece of motoring history, from what I have found out (which may be wrong) there are 2 left in the UK, yours being one of them, and yours is defo nearer to the road.

Like I said from the outset, whatever happens to that car, it will always be your car. you are the DIGITMAN!

BTW, First (terrorising Travel) always need drivers / engineers / body makers etc.... The monies sh!te, but the ability to walk off with useful stuff and make use of the workshop facilities are useful...

Best of luck with everything mate, and you know where I am etc if you want some fettling done!

Cheers

David was kind enough to let me nose around this car last year....it really is something special :D

I think you've made the right decision, aslong as it doesn't overload you with work. Lucky you changed your mind, because I'd thought more than twice about selling the valver off to restore this!

I too have been honored enough to sit in this beast and gaze in awe at the dash!

David's definitley made the right decision, but you wouldn't have had to part with your valver Kitch, I'd have killed you for the DIGIT anyway!

I'm not thinking of selling it, I'm thinking of breaking it up again. Each time I don't and each time I regret it.
