Digit For Free. *Thread resurrected again. Page 7 this time

Post by DavidRutherford »

Due to a change in circumstances, and a realisation that I really do own far too much stuff, the Digit is going to have to go (along with a number of other cars)

Free to anyone who wants it. I could probably deliver (at cost) but would prefer it to be collected.

It starts, runs and drives, but does need a fairly thorough restoration. The bodywork is tatty, the interior not bad. It's not been on the road for about 2 years, but has been fairly regularly driven up and down my lane (several miles at a time) to keep everything from siezing.

Anyone interested? Pics will follow shortly.

You went through a crisis of faith with this car once before. Are you sure?

I wish I could take it on, but I don't have the funds to do it justice :(

Are you absolutley certain you want to do this mate?

I really cant justify another car, but I really want a DIGIT!

I'd say, sleep on it for a week matey, if you're still sure then, expect a pm!

But dont do anything you'll regret later, you only live once, and thats a damn near unique car, you wont always be busy with work and the such...

Cheers

No... if I'm honest, I'm not sure. But I have 11 vehicles now. Granted, 3 of them are destined for scrap, and I'm hoping to sell at least 1, but that's still way too many, and with the job I've just taken on, I'm unlikely to have any time available at all.

Plus, I have my eye on yet another CX..

If someone else was to guarantee it would be restored, then I think I'd probably part with it.

aw man, I'd much rather you kept it really David, I'd really struggle to justify having another car at the mo, actually it's not so much the number of cars I have thats the problem, it's the number of commercial's, and theres another 40 footer arriving this year...

BUT, if you do decide it has to go, then I'd sell the valver and take it on, do it properly, and give you first refusal if it had to go, obvioulsey not for profit, but if someone else wanted to take it on then I'd be happy for that to happen too. I really love that car, even the number plates are original!

Jobs aint forever though David, and CX's are all well and good, but where are you EVER going to get another DIGIT??

Yes I am trying to talk you out of it, because
A: I think you'd regret it
B: I want it but I've just taken on more projects than I can cope with..
C: I think that car belongs to you, you'll always be the DIGIT man
D: It's better than a CX..

Keep me informed mate.... but I really hope you keep it!

Cheers

Note point D:
it is better than a CX.

Having owned both, the only area where a CX beats a BX is in the front suspension.

Beguiling though they are, (enough to incur WBM's grave displeasure,) it should be remembered that the only thing they couldn't catch was their own depreciation curve and good ones are very, very rare today. It is only their looks (and the twaddle about them being the last real Citroen) that makes them today's must haves for so many BXers.

The BX is much more a real Citroen than was the CX. The traditional Citroen was a rural car for farmers where dynamics and performance were sacrificed for practicality (see C3, 2CV, GS etc) The BX fits into this group. With the sole exception of the DS, any attempt to break the mould with a car for the bourgeoisie (Traction, CX)has resulted in Citroen going bust.

Although I own both, I wouldn't consider a CX for everyday use. As the Doc says. the BX is a better car.

Dont get me wrong, I love CX's, but yeah, as an everyday car, the bx wins hands down everytime.

It's a real shame they dumped the double wishbone setup in favour of macpherson struts on the BX, no doubt a nod to nornality imposed by pug..

I just think the the car in question here is very special, I dont think even the DIGIT should really be used everyday, although I've no doubt it could be used bery reliably everyday.

I've gone through the same thing with the coach, keep it / sell it / keep it / sell it, and everytime I've made up my mind to sell it I've taken it for a drive and remembered why I love it so much and it's stayed. I know now that if I'd sold it I'd be regretting it now, and I think David would be in the same boat with the DIGIT, the job may be taking up lots of time now, and having a clear out of stuff is good sometimes, I just think the DIGIT is one car that should stay IMO.

Cheers

True Doc, but if you have it and then he changes his mind at leats he can get it back, most probably in a better state than when you got it. IF you can store it inside away from the elemenst its not going to detoriate, even if you dont do much with it for long.

Ive had my 16v over a year and im still working on it.

Yeah, thats true, it can go inside in the barn, but I definetley wouldn't be able to do anything with it this year, my time is booked up till may 08 at least.

I reckon I could sink £10K into that car easy, since I think making it "as new" is the only way to do it really.....

I've just googled it, and can see it was a very limited run of a BX GT with snazzy star wars type electronic dashboard!

Nope, sorry.

You guys have not driven a CX enough. A mechanically well sorted one, day in day out in all conditions beats a BX silly on every aspect of driving. The thing will cost you more over the same period though.

And I like BX's a lot, having owned 5 of them. Diesel petrol and 16v.

Digit's are indeed MK1's but not all of them were badged up as Digit's. Some were only badged as 19GT.
