Now he told me that he wants at least £650 for it!!! (and £250 for the GS)

I am always very wary of buying cars from any kind of "dealer"....I prefer to trust my own judgement on a privately-owned car, especially if I can back up that judgement with some useful 'heads-ups'

Ideally, the X I'm after will be in pretty decent shape bodywise, but may be inneed of some mechanical "tweaking", preferable with some T&T to be able to drive it, both on test and bringing home. Then it will go onto my driveway/garden/repair-shop, to be brought back to life over the next few months. Unfortunately I have no access to covered storage, so any serious bodywork replacement is a no-no. Filling, sanding, priming etc is OK, as I would probably eventually get it sprayed "offsite", having done most of the prep myself.
My budget runs to around £300, maybe a tad more for a nicer specimen!

This is all great help. Many thanks!

They're different. I've never taken either on a track so I don't want to get into Clarkson-esque talk of "limits" but my impressions are...

They're both VERY impressive at speed - on motorways.

The BX is, as you say, more composed - as you'd hope from a more modern car.

The GS, on the other hand, moves about a bit more but offers fantastic feedback while doing so; you know exactly what it's doing. The steering is second-to-none.

Neither car will bite you. The BX offers a bit more security. The GS offers a lot more communication.

I'd love to take the GSA on a proper track run. I took it for 2 laps round Le Mans, but that was with hundreds of other cars at the same time

Adam, I have to admit I have had some scary "straight on" moments with the GSA - but that was while it was on Firestone tyres. I *really* noticed the difference between these and the Mabor tyres that replaced the fronts. The front Firestones went prematurely bald on the outer edge and ended up having bit of braiding poking through the wall!! One theory I had was that they weren't up to running at the handbook-specified pressures (27 psi front, 28 rear) which were for the Michelin tyre.

As part of the resto I had 4 new Michelins fitted. They seem to be far more hard wearing and far superior in the wet.

My first BX Meteor seemed to corner on rails and felt unshakeable. The second one is less so, and I'm not sure of the reason for that. It seems less secure at the back...

Mark.

I agree ....the reason why my first car was a GS (1979 special) because it was very cheap in 1985. The car was just 6 years old at the time had no rust and no other troubles whatsoever.....
It was the version with only around 1100 cc but it was unexpectedly fast on the motorway....great car...
