If you run only one at a time there shouldn't be any conflicts - but Microsoft has always been a law unto itself so I might be wrong there.

tbh I can't see how even running several different browsers at the same time could cause a problem? They each have there own ring-fenced resources and network traffic is by it's nature diverse...

As mentioned earlier, download AntiVir from Avira and use that. It is a brilliant antivirus. Dump AVG cos that is a bag of crap! What that normally does is let all the viruses in then pop up an alert when they try and access tinternet! TOO LATE!! When AntiVir is installed do a COMPLETE scan including rootkits. It really is that good.

Scarecrow didn't know you ran Linux  I'm using Mint at the mo but tend to jump about some. Been off Mr Gates' products for 18 months now. I used PclinuxOs for a long long time but they upgraded to KDE4 and v2010.1 and I couldn't get it to load  . Bloody udev problems. I've got about half a dozen hdds and just keep swapping them about when I get bored.

demag, do you have to remove avg 1st before using antivir? can you have more than 1 antiviirus system installed, or do they conflict with each other?

Yes it has to be removed 1st. Two a/v's stand a very good job of screwing your pc.

It will probably have an uninstall option or try the remove program option. Is that in control panel? can't remember now.

Ubuntu is easy to install, usually! And I keep Windows in a nice little VMware box for when I have to use it to run college Apps.

I'm using Gnome at the mo., I found kde a bit resource heavy (and a bit too flashy for my liking . ). My puters are always crap as I can't stand to see my assets depreciate.

When I was collecting the dumped stuff I had quite a few hdds too, but they all died after a few months in my dusty tip. I'm on a half-decent (for me) Presario now, with a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 and everything is working well so far!

What's your favourite game/App? I like Warzone 2100 and I used to prefer Amarok but it's no longer compatible with Gnome.

as this is a BXProject thread, i think its only fair that its hijacked!

I'm glad to see another 'change your anti virus package before the world ends' thread. Hopefully this time when various people start telling me they changed there package as commanded and now there computer is ruined, they might actually reward me for spending hours un screwing up there computers.

I've had AVG Free for 5 years, on all my computers, including this one that spends most of the day on the Internet, usually downloading something or other, and I've not had a single fault with it, none, ever.

DON'T fix it if it isn't broken!

Me too. I have tried them all, they all work well in their different ways.
I have recently dumped Avira in favour of Avast.
Why ? Cos I got fed up with the nag screens to upgrade and also it seems to take much longer to boot since installing version10 - More bloatware I suppose.
Avira is a good product though as is Avast which I am using happily now across all my many PCs.
Dunno about AVG only tried it once briefly years ago and went on to Norton as I found a way to get free updates.

Its another brand loyalty thing I suppose, which is why we like our Citroëns.
The Joy of BX with just one Citroën BX to my name now. Will I sing Bye Bye to my GTI or will it be Till death us do part.
