Can you run the engine with the pressure relief screw undone

Post by bx petrol auto saloon »

Dear Mr Meteor.
Great video of the leak Brian 8) at 2,600 psi it does go everywhere,
I still have an area of LHM on my driveway, it just won,t go away
I think I will have to clean it up with some carb cleaner :!:
the photo,s are really informative too Brian, I can see the excellant work
that you have done already :D :) I agree with you totally Brian, about
the remainder of the HP pipe, from the area that is leaking is too short
to do anything with  so replacement is your only option
If you find that the putting the unions in the vice, that they become
squashed, you could put a single hex socket ( not a multi-hex one ) on
say, a 1/2 drive T bar in the vice too. saves the socket from
slipping around in the vice too.
Anyway Brian, the very best of luck and I hope all goes well
Take Care.
Vince.

had that pipe shaffed through against the seat belt bolt along side it, in your first picy its looks very close to the tip of that bolt,

Kevan - useful link that.. Do you know which size pipe is on the BX then? 6mm? Do you know if any of those fittings will be compatible with what's already on the car? Steve

Thanks for that, but I can get an entire finger between the pipe and the seat bolt. It was the same when the brake pipe to the rear T-piece had a hole 3 years ago i.e. no reason. It might be due to heat from the middle box casuing the pipes to expand and shrink microscopically, then the plastic coating cracks and mositure gets onto the outer surface of the pipe.

Don't forget, this is the original piping as intsalled 20 years ago.

Had an idea to get the car temporarily mobile again.
