You could always take the best of both cars to put together a solid, reliable motor, then if you decide the other shell is salvageable it can be rebuilt as time and funds allow, while also sourcing whatever mechanical parts needed for the reassembly.But now after finding out estates aren't so numerous i'm not sure what to do.
It's certainly easier than a major repair job. Being able to weld is only half the battle - you also need to be able to make the repair sections you are going to fit, which can be more difficult than the welding.I am a C&G qualified welder and have all the equipment but there are times when you just have to admit the shell has reached an end of life state. IMHO capturing and cutting out any rust issues at an early stage and then thoroughly treating them with preservatives is the only way to keep one of these cars on the road long term.
