The agreeable bits:
MoT until 18th September 2013
Tax until 31st December 2012
I fitted proper temp gauge to the car shortly after buying it. The car has never overheated during the time I've owned it. The fan cuts in when it should. However, a few months ago I noticed the cooling system had become quite pressurised so recently I stuck in a can of 'Steel Seal' liquid head gasket repair which, amazingly, solved the problem.
There are no LHM or coolant leaks.
The heater fan, rev counter, all four electric windows, the dashboard illumination, the electric N/S mirror and central locking (except on the tailgate) all work. The parcel shelf is present.
I fitted a new O/S rear brake pipe a few months after I bought the car in April 2011 and changed the cambelt (but not the tensioner) at 151K miles. I then changed the oil and filter about a month after. I put a new O/S outer CV gaiter on to get it though the most recent MoT and rear pads and a rear height corrector diaphragm to get it through the one before.
I did have 3 invoices dated 2009 and 2010 from a previous owner for fitting spheres all round, a camshaft seal, one front strut, front pads and discs and a service, but annoyingly I can't find them. Checking the MoT history revealed that it failed in 2007 at 130K on play in both radius arms, so I assume both bearings were replaced to get the car passed.
Less agreeable bits.....
Both rear arches are pretty rusty (see pics) There's also a rust bubble on the N/S front arch and a large patch on the N/S rear quarter which has been repaired with fibre glass and filler after my hand went through it! All of these blemishes have been brush painted with green Hammerite that's a reasonable colour match. There are some other bubbles at the base of each B pillar, so only visible when the door is open - these have also been touched up with Hammerite. Also there's some damage to the GRP tailgate (see pics), some noticeable scratches on the bonnet and a hole in the wheelarch directly below the washer bottle about the size of two 50p coins next to each other. There are welded patches at the rear end of each sill.
The back end can be very slow to rise. Occasionally it won't rise at all and the suspension has to be raised to its highest position and then lowered back down to driving height. This is rare though, and usually the car will rise.
The rear wiper and the clock don't work.
The front O/S wheel bearing is very noisy. A new bearing is included in the sale.
It got an advisory for an oil leak. I think it's coming from the O/S driveshaft seal. I had intended to replace it when I changed the Cv gaiter for the MoT but for some reason I just couldn't remove the driveshaft. I gave up in the end and fitted a gaiter that stretches over a cone on to the joint. A new seal is included in the sale.
The fail sheet also contained an advisory about a front brake imbalance. Further investigation revealed there's lots of meat on the O/S pads but only about 2-3mm on the N/S pads. I assume the caliper is seized but haven't investigated further. A new set of brake pads are included in the sale. The discs still look OK.
There are noticeable clonking noises from the front end going over bumps I assume this the anti roll bar drop links but haven't investigated this.
The rear exhaust mounting has snapped off and one of the fuel tank straps has snapped. The car has two tanks connected by a pipe. The tank with the snapped strap is the one furthest away from the filler so by putting in no more than £30 worth of diesel at a time, there's been no problem.
Rear O/S tyre has lots of tread, but the sidewall's perished and it has a temporary puncture repair, although it's holding air at the moment. Rear N/S tyre and front O/S tyre have a good 5mm of tread over the whole width of the tyre but the front O/S either has a slow puncture or needs resealing on the rim. Front N/S tyre is worn to the legal limit on the inner edge and needs changing.
Questions, inspections, test drives are all welcome. Give me a bell: Paul - 07515 028213. I've tried to give an accurate description of the car. If the winning bidder doesn't agree when they see the car, they're welcome to walk away. But I won't accept any haggling - the winning bid is the price you pay. 99p start, no reserve. I won't end the sale early - the car will sell for whatever the winning bid is. Cash on collection by November 4th .
