Does anyone have experience of these, if so good or bad?

[tight git mode] Just economics, they seem pretty expensive for what they are, nylons are about quarter the price :wink:

Nylons are shite, they get hot then cold then hot then cold and eventuall get brittle and snap. Ford used to use them, but have redesigned the entire sump plug itself to include a rubber seal. Works out more money each time, but only a couple of quid and saves hassle. Plus it works!

But copper are still only about 70p vs 30p? :? Thats seriously tight!

I must say I've re-used copper washers many (if not most!) times I've done an oil change, on various vehicles, and never ha a leak...so if you want to save a few pence then just re-use the copper one.

Or make your own using some 15mm copper pipe sliced up! :D :wink:

Same here. I've never changed a sump washer on an XUD engine ever, nor have I had any kind of leak.

Well I tend to re-use copper washers too so will continue to do so as it seems pretty unanimous that nylon is not ftw 8)

I've changed the washers on all 3 of mine, as they had been flattened to notingness over 15+ years, so thought they deserved it :D

Just a quick note to say that the copper washers are available in plastic packs in Carrefour (and other 'good' and not so good super/hyper markets) for about 2 or 3 euros a pack (can't remember how many in a pack but at least five or six) not the sort of thing you'd expect to bring back from a 'booze cruise' but well worth thinking about. As are there 'own brand' air and oil filters etc. etc.

Just a little tip :idea:

I tend to reuse the copper washer until its starts to rattle a bit too much on the sump plug or the indentation (Thinning) of the sump plug on to the face of the copper washer gets too severe :!:

But what I do use is a couple off binds up and down on the threads of the sump plug it self with the Plumbers type PTFE tape with the washer off and also making sure that the direction of the outer end of the binding is tending to tighten towards the thread when re-fitting the sump plug, (i.e. Clockwise looking on to the opposite end of the Square drive end).
Doing this has never allowed even the slightest of oil weep/drips after doing an oil change :!:

I took the plunge & bought some from a main stealer at full price (whatever it was, cant remember).

This has got to be the tightest money saving thread of all time :lol:
