Tim ask Vanny about 1.7 n/a diesels! I sold mine to his mate and I`m certain he`ll vouch that it went like the clappers. I found it an ideal mix for performance and economy btw when I had it.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think the 1.7 isa better less troublesome engine than the 1.9?

Dont think I've ever heard of a head gasket going on a 1.7, even though of fitting PAS myself.

I still miss mine. This `new` 1.9 I have is considerably smoother and quieter than the last one but I found the 1.7 a much more refined and user friendly drive. It also took a fair amount of abuse from your`s truly and never ever missed a beat.
I`m left wondering whether to get a Tizzy D now to run along side the estate or to return to my first love and get a MK3 Cavalier SRi, or better still a 2wd GSi.

You obviously enjoy welding up rear wheel arches if you want a Cavalier! Its nice to see come manufacturers carry in important old traditions.

I fill them actually-a bit of fibreglass and a smidge of filler and they`ll last for years.

Why am i not surprised?

I've often thought about offering my welding services. I'm sure i could keep many cars out of the scrapyard.
