What Alloys will fit my BX ?

Post by tidus72 »

I would like to fit some alloys on my BX instead of the steel wheels currently fitted, anyone know upto what size will fit ?

I was thinking about a set of Saxo 14" VTR/S Alloys but I am worried they will be too wide and foul on the operation of the rear suspension by catching on the rear arch as its half covered. :?

You can fit upto 6j, usually a 14 inch rim, bigger is possible, one member did have some 17's fitted, but were replaced due to crashy suspension feel i believe.

The only issue you might have if you fit the larger 6j rather than the standard 5.5j, is if the rear arm bearings are worn, then clearance might be a bit tight.

I believe that vtr alloys will fit without the need for any adaptors, a straight fit. A few members have them fitted & the odd one for sale sometimes sports them.

Do VTR alloys suit BX's? They are cheap and plentiful on ebay...

Some say they do, others cry NOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Its all personal choice, i wouldnt knock anyone if they had them fitted, especially if they had a custom paint job on them that really went well with the colour of that particular car.

Just looked the VTR up on Google (I know nothing about Saxos as they don't appeal) and after seeing the alloys it has I would recommend getting some others for a BX as I can't picture them suiting. Having said that it IS personal choice, if you think they work with the car then who is anyone to tell you differently.

If not alloys, then just some replacement 14" Wheel trim covers, but I expect genuine tidy ones are hard to get now

I have a set of spare alloys that will fit a BX, the tyres are legal but the wheels could do with a bit of TLC. PM if interested.

Original Speedlines are a popular choice, and often come up free or next-to-nothing if you're willing to be patient.

It's worth doing, as I think fitting 185 tyres improves a BX's handling no end. I've never driven on anything wider, but as mentioned above some members have found that wider tyres spoil the ride.

VTR alloys looked like this on my BX GTi:

Image

borrowed them off my Visa GTi when the (165!!) tyres were bald on the BX, but they were replaced with 16v alloys quickly as I didn't like them on the BX!

Then it looked like this:

much better!

But BX speedlines would look better still, and the chances are they'll be cheaper so why not wait?
