Had an interesting BX day yesterday (weds). Took the middle daughter from Luton to MK (about 20 miles) in my trusty old BX (Daisy) to catch a train to Glasgow and got gridlocked. As a result, she missed her train, which meant she wouldn't be able to make her onward connection to Arran for a Geology field course.
Net result? - an 820 mile round trip to Scotland and back (15.5 hours + pitstops and 54 mpg). The old girl didn't complain once (the car, not me!) and she certainly felt a lot livelier than I did this morning.
Is this some kind of endurance record for BX and/or driver?
I can highly recommend Tebay Services on the M6 near Penrith - definitely in a different league to your usual Services.

PS 820 miles and didn't see a single BX, but did get a wave from a P reg Xantia driver on the Kilmarnock/Dumfries road
Is this a record?

Fantastic Daisy, both you and the BX
Well done!
I also rate Tebay and the best services ever, one that really is a "welcome break"...
The first time I saw that part of the M6 my mouth dropped open at the sheer beauty of the sceneray. It seems you leave England behind shortlly after clearing Lancaster and enter into another country altogether (no, not Scotland just yet!). It's almost alpine in its nature and how the M6 curves in and out of the railway is magical. The lakes is a lovely spot
Three years ago now, following his parents move to Spain, He and I drove an LWB Merc Sprinter loaded to the gunnels with all their stuff from Milton Keynes to Alicante in just about 24 hours non-stop...
The great shame was we went across the famous Millau Bridge in France twice, once going and then coming back. Both times it was the dead of night and we only knew we were on the bridge by the increased sidewinds (vents lateral in French
) hitting the van
I'l love to see this marvellous bridge in daylight. Bit of a bridge enthusiast me...

Tebay (which always sounds like a northerner talking about eBay to me!) is, if I remember, the only independent motorway services in the UK. I always make a point of stopping there if I need to stop anywhere in that area.
Back between 1994 and 1996 I was up and down from Southampton to Dundee (some 500 miles) on a rather regular basis, and always enjoyed that bit of the journey most.
Did the vast majority of those journeys behind a Square-port XUD9 too. Just a bit of a shame it was in a Talbot Horizon. Great engine, but the car was fairly tiring to drive. Still, it was the cheapest way I could drive a decent diesel engine in 1994. An early BX MK1 diesel was still the best part of a grand, whereas the Talbot was £300. Put 50k miles on that in about a year!

And my mother said-
"What - you went all that way in that clapped-out old car of yours"
She's off the christmas card list.
You can really go off people, can't you!
