olympic blue bx gti 8v

Post by rob-bx16v »

I dont suspect anybody will be intrested but before we do i thought id see if anybody on here wanted to save it?. Basicly in a weeks time we are about to part ex the gti for an 06 plate car.

We have been offered £500 trade in on a new car at our local dealers the reason being is the gti,s engine has started smoking and burning oil, Its slightly low compression on pot 4 and we have had the valve stem seals done so we think its piston rings and for this reason we are selling.

The car is a 1990 h reg gti 8v in olyimpic blue

it has air con ( not working ) and a phase 1 16v interior fitted
the rear arm bearings have been done
it has a new alternator
cambelt replaced
new discs and pads on the front
new discs and pads on the rear
new front flexi hoses
complete new exhaust system
new badges
new clutch fitted
new coil pack fitted
new ht leads and plugs and the list goes on

It is completely undersealed ( i did it ) and has never been welded or needs welding and is one of the best gtis i have seen for a long time with no rust in the usual places. There are loads of photos in the gallery under robs blue gti 8v bx.

As stated we have been offered £ 500 trade in on the car. There will be no tax and it will have either steel or bx alloys fitted as the alloys on it belong to me and are going back on the red 16v.

In a nut shell we will be doing the deal in 1 week so if anyone is intrested before it goes you will need to match the £500 offered. If no one wants it then fair enough as im not bothered but id thought id give the club the opportunity to have it before its ruined or even bought as scrap.

cheers rob

Shame, but that's a tempting trade-in price isn't it?!

No. They'd knock at least £350, and very likely the full £500, off for cash anyway with no part-ex.

Have to agree on that one, an old BX to the motor trade in general is worthless, they are most probably offering you that as a "sweetener" If it were me I would ask for no part ex what they would knock off as the BX to them is just something they will need to "get rid of".

Thats a real shame Rob, Im quite shocked that your not bothered if it gets scrapped, your car to do with as you wish though I suppose, lets hope someone steps in.

tim the red 16v is my first love and thats the one i care about having spent £12,000 on rebuilding it. Its the only bx im keeping now, These days i like messing about with old fords as parts are easier to come by.

The gti belongs to my dad and he wants a new car rather than rebuild the gti,s engine so i respect his decision and i dont want to take it on again after i let him have it when he sold the green 16v hes just gone off bx s all together now!

Well, it's one for the scrappers then. Make sure you get all the decent removable bits off it, including mats and rear headrests (if they're there) - and if you fitted a K&N get that too- etc. etc. Then, if you are feeling charitable, give the lot to the BXagon Boot Sale!

It's a fait accompli delivered via the Forum, but there you go. Your decision 8)

most of the fancy bits are being removed, the alloys are going back on the red 16v. The sunroof deflector has found a new home on my ford orion ghia i  . Like i said all is not lost and ive still got the red 16v and will have for some time to come.

shame the blue ones going to meet a premature end but its out of my hands now

Could you ask the dealer if they plan on scrapping it, or selling it on, as if they are going to scrap it, I know someone who is in dire need of both offside doors in olympic blue.

If two good doors get crushed while there are two bent doors on Stuart Hedges's car, that would be an utter utter waste.

i should imagine it will be going down saltash or st austell motor auctions. it will either be bought as a run about or as scrap by a scrap dealer to strip and weigh in. Its sad because its in way better condition than 90% of bx,s on the road with all original paint with exception of the bumpers which have been repainted. I have been right through the car and know there is no structural or severe rust. and the only bits that are on the car are a few scabs that have been treated long ago and even these arnt bad. Despite the engine needing a rebuild the rest of the car is mint. I would even go as far as say it was better than my 16v condition wise.
