RPO Number

Post by peterwight »

Can anyone confirm that the RPO number is the 4 digit number on the nearside door strut of each of my BXs? My local Citroen spares dept has asked me to report this back to them so that they can choose which of two parts to order for me (5138 nd 5139)
All comments welcome. Sadly both mine (the meteor and the 16v)are different from those (above) in Citroen's catalogue, but they look so right, if you know what I mean. Regards, Peter
A BX fan since buying a 1983 1.6 in 1987 and subsequently a 1.9GTi, three 16valvers and a diesel Meteor. Their deaths have us done parted, save for one 16V sold for restoration, hopefully underway.

I believe it is, otherwise known as ORGA number.

Yes, the RP/ORGA part number is found when you look inside the n/s front door shut, under the hinge.

RP number can be significant in parts suitability in the ways below

(i) Part valid up to a particular RP no.
(ii) Particular RP only valid - yes, it gets that specific sometimes...if rarely
(iii) Part valid between particular RPs
(iv) Part valid from a Particular RP onward

For some replacement parts they're very necessary to know: a couple of years back I went through a lengthy but unsuccessful sequence of trying to obtain the correct back-of-engine coolant pipe for a BX TZD estate which was right on the cusp of a couple of significant changes. I gave up in this particular case after a couple of abortive attempts - certain parts on this car were significantly different from another same-model BX estate made only very shortly after.

This might have been more of a problem on estates, as the parts supply-chain to Heuliez who put them together at their own factory was possibly more unpredictable than the main hatchback BX factory in Rennes. Exceptions can occur.

In the end I had to use the pipe diameter information and found a home-made solution (moral - don't throw away that busted hose).
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

all the BX's i have owend and worked on the RP No. is stenciled on or near one of the suspension turets under the bonnet, usualy stenciled in yellow or black, its only later such as later xantias onwards the printed it on the tyre presure lable in the door shut, it is a 4 digit No., but most citroen dealers will ask for just the last 8 digits of the chassis/vin No. which is stamped onto the O/S/F wing rain chanle just along side the top of the wing edge

Erm, all BX's have the ORGA number on the N/S A pillar, like as in, every BX ever made.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

That's the paint and trim code, which is always just under the N/S front sphere on the inner wing.

The ORGA number is definitely on the N/S A pillar between the two door hinges.
this might be a signature

Not really, because it specifies Drivers side. This is because it is written for left hand drive cars!
