My BX 19TXD Estate will be up for grabs in a couple of weeks. We've had the car since 1998, and are the second owners, there is a full service history, with all the old MOT certificates, and the Tax discs since 1998. No MOT or Tax both ran out in January. MOT Refusal has three points. 1. Service Brake efficiency, (MOT Tester reckons it's a sticking piston) 2. Exhaust mounting, I think it's the middle one. 3. Suspension Accumulator leaking. In addition the clutch will need replacing very soon, as it's on full adjustment and it's very thin, though it's not slipping yet. Not bad for 184,000 miles. The N/S Rear wing is fairly rusty, the MOT Tester said it was nothing to worry about structurally. The engine has never failed to start, I started it today for the first time since January and it caught first turn, as it always has. New Glow Plugs and Suspension Spheres all round in the last 5000 miles. Silver Quartz with a black interior which is in excellent condition, and has always been fitted with rubber mats over the carpet. Fitted with a steel bonnet.
We shall be sorry to see this car go as it has been very reliable. But we haven't space for three cars, and shall be keeping the BX 17TZD Turbo - a lot less miles, and a new MOT.
The only problem as far as I see it is that the car is on the Isle of Wight. So if anyone wants to come and take it away, they'll be very welcome.

It's a shame the Solent's in the way, Barrie... are you anywhere near the various Portsmouth ferries?
Sounds more like the pressure regulator or flow-diverter valve, and the accumulator being fingered as it's the lowest drip-point. Is it actually dripping or just wet? Is the tick-time once the car is raised rapid, or not?
Front or rear brakes?1. Service Brake efficiency, (MOT Tester reckons it's a sticking piston)
Unusual, more often it's the rear one that corrodes away. Is corrosion specifically mentioned on the fail sheet?2. Exhaust mounting, I think it's the middle one.
3. Suspension Accumulator leaking.

Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

Daffydd ap Llewellyn ap Morgan,
1. It's one of the Front Brakes which is sticking, the N/S one I believe.
2. The rear mounting was welded back on for last years MOT and is still OK. The Sheet did not mention corrosion. I quote: " Rear Exhaust has a mounting that it does not fully support the exhaust system [7.1.1b]"
3. The pipework on the Accumulator Block showed signs of leaking last year, and were tightened by the garage, which stopped the leak, may be the seals. As the Accumulator's weak it's difficult to tell whether it's clicking more than normal. But it's not losing fluid and the suspension works well, although it takes quite a long time to rise.
The car has been maintained by the same Citroen specialist since 1994 and they were always determined to keep it on the road. They last worked on it in January last year for the MOT, just before we moved to the Island. The car only did 776 miles between last year's and this year's MOT.
We're not too far from the Fishbourne / Portsmouth ferry, we live in Shanklin, about a 20 minute drive.

Malcolm,
The rear mounting was done last year, and is still firmly attached. Perhaps I should have asked at the time. The car is now on SORN, and will go to the scrapyard in a couple of weeks, unless someone offers to take it away beforehand. Though I hope it doesn't come to that, as the old car has been a model of reliability.

From the wording on the fail sheet, it could be something as simple as a peroshed mouting rubber.
Or maybe one of them has slipped off, it's not unheard of for the rubber to come adrift from the intermediate pipe, especially if the rubber spacer is missing from the mount on the middle box.

Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!
Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

I was wondering about that too no mention of corrosion.. have a spare somewhere. So the pressure regulator block's probably the main problem, judging by the success I had in cleaning out calipers a few weeks back.
Busy for a day or two - hope to come back to you, Barry, probably through the messaging system on this site.
