Rather optimistic BIN on eBay

Post by Philip Chidlow »

He describes car, additionally as: "interior good condition, air conditioning switch missing, bodywork tatty"... And the Buy It Now is, well, a bit on the high side

Can't see it doing anywhere near that, I'm sure Cavmad will have a more colourful way of putting it.

Its quite tidy bodywork-wise, but its an auto....its a 1.9 8v.
So whoever buys it will have to enjoy crap economy and performance, and if you're stupid enough to enjoy those two things you're stupid enough to pay £550 for it. I'd buy it for the wheels alone.....sexy!

(I know they're rare early TRS ones :P )

If the aircon is operational, this is not a silly price for an estate with long tax and ticket, despite it being a petrol car. Seems pretty fair to me.

Hey, Kitch steady on - I drive a GTI 8v auto and get, these days 26-27mpg from it. Not too bad (but nowhere as near as economical, I admit, as an oil-burner - but then again I don't spend loadsa money on head gaskets ). What's more it'll p*ss on a lot of cars on the road (except 16v's of course!), believe me - not appreciably less swift than my old manual GTI on a run...

Auto is considered a 'luxury' by some - and luxury comes at a price.

Back to the point: I am not mad (well, just a bit otherwise I wouldn't be typing this at 9:25 on a Saturday evening), but I think the guy wanting £550 for a tatty (by his own admission) BX Petrol Estate is.

No, not for a car with working aircon. They are rare, highly prized and not easy to part from their owners.

Hmm, seems a trifle dear to me. I`ll admit nice diesels estates can fetch good money but I think realistically he`s only likely to get sub £400 for this one.
It`s an auto which will probably help it but it`s just not good enough for the money. Non BXers take a bit of convincing to buy into the product and alas (false) reputations for being niggly expensive to maintain cars doesn`t help them at all price wise.
That`s not so say that to us the car is not worth somewhere near that amount but would anyone from here buy it for that?
I`d personally have preferred diesel and the number of petrol cars surviving and seen for sale (excluding GTi`s) compared to diesels probably speaks volumes: one of the reasons I`m trying to `win` the one off eBay local to me.
If that was an open auction on eBay I`d say between £300-£375.

Philip: Not to cause offence matey, I'm only basing my opinion on a 1.9 8v manual and a 16 auto. Never been a fan of the autos personally (although obviously some people need them, fair enough).
But I'm sure even you would admit £550 for that is mad! Perhaps if it was a mint TZD T with a clean radiator? Or even an N/A on low milage.

I always thought the estates went for better money overall as they attract a wider market. People who don't particularly want a BX will buy it for the load carrying ability, whereas with a hatch theres another car out there somewhere which will do the job better. Sad but true.

It's OK Kitch :D No offence taken! I agree - £550 too high!
