Nah don't tax at the end of the month, you'll be wasting more than a fiver if you do that

/\ how?
You can tax a car at the PO from the 15th of the month the tax expires.
And I believe it's earlier still online.
Smokes lots, because enough's enough already!

Far too many BX's, a bus, an ambulance a few trucks, not enough time and never enough cash...

If doing it online you can tax it the 5th day of the month that the tax expires at the end of. If you get what I mean!

I was told it's best to do it at the start of the month, and even if you can do it on the 5th of the month it expires, then it's too late now before the price goes up next month?

Confused, you are.....

If your Tax expires this month end then you can renew it tomorrow in the Post Office at the old rate.

If you wait till Friday (1st May) then you will have to pay the new rate for the same thing!

Simples...........

I'm not sure you where explicit enough there W2G,
If your Tax expires this month end then you can renew it tomorrow in the Post Office at the old rate.
Tax it today, starting to day, but you only pay from next month onwards, effectively getting 5 days free. So you buy 360 days and get 5 free, its as good a deal as going to Woolies!

what DVLA are actualy saying if say you buy online on the last day of this month, as long as you keep the old disc which runs out the end of this month on display, you will get 5 day exemption from displaying the new disc, but only to the 5th day of next month, it dose not mean you can buy online on the fith day of the next month,

this is DVLA.GOV they aint going to give you nufin not a penny

erm? i'm not sure anyone mentioned the 5th of next month, we are all talking about this month, ie within 5 days of the end of the month. Your right that you have to have an old disc to get a new one five days early(if that is what you where trying to say), but having checked up, you can indeed get two days free motoring;
DVLA Website wrote:When to apply
If your tax is due to run out at the end of the month, you can renew it from the fifth day of the month.

If your vehicle has been untaxed, because you’ve just bought it, the tax disc has run out or a SORN is in force, you can tax from the first day of the month in which you apply.

If you want the tax disc to start on the first day of the next calendar month, you cannot tax your vehicle more than two days in advance.
AWESOME!

BXies are not taxed on emmisions, they are all too old! Price will be £190 for the year for any BX over 1549cc, and £125 for the 1.4 litre engine ;)

So how much will it be then, after the fiver rise?

That would still be less than I pay for the privelege of driving my TRD since they cut the the Catalyser tax reduction! I've got to get my Yellow Break back on the road, though it's exactly the same engine, the Cat was registered before last Autumn so I'll pay €320 a year ( still more than Uk I'll warrant) and keep the TRD til it's a 'historic' vehicle in five years - €120 ( if it's in perfect condition and if they haven't abolished the thirty year rule by then)
