i'm thinking of pulling the 80,000 mile (non PAS) pump out my now beyond economical repair (in terms of money and time) 17TGD and fitting to my TZD.
It looks pretty simple to get out / put in, access permitting.
my tick time is pretty low now - 4 - 9 seconds. Acc sphere seems good with boot test and only 1.5 yrs old / 12000 miles. did re-seat ball-bearing when changing it then although not entirely sure enough clout given.
The pump may not be charging acc sphere fully, it seems of but a bit weak on the power steering.
the tick time on the 17TGD is 1.5 - 2 minutes!
I plan to proceed as follows:
swap over acc spheres, note any difference.
swap pump (maybe) if straighforward.
re-seat ball bearing again?
swap the regulator - arr PAS/non-PAS the same?
Any advice regarding the pump would be gladly received.
LHM pumps ease of fitting?

2020s - A shinier red TZD estate has replaced scruffy 19TXD "Red Shed". - x 13
IF this course of action looks valid in the light of all symptoms and tests, I'd personally be happiest swapping-in a pump in with the reservoir-to-pump pipe still attached. The reservoir end is considerably easier to reconnect.swap pump (maybe) if straighforward
Back on two wheels and pedal power for the moment.

2 minutes at idle is very good indeed - I get about 1' 20" on the CX after refitting the OLD reconditioned accumulator and taking the 9 month old AMTEX one off that had dropped to average 29 secs tick time.the tick time on the 17TGD is 1.5 - 2 minutes!
Anyway, I have heard that the non PAS cars' pumps tended to last out very well due to having such an easy life with only a little accumulator to top up and no PAS to constantly drive.
I fitted a new pump to my BX to try to improve the PAS action and the faulty non- ticking regulator (had to rev to make it cut out) - it improved but not fixed. I still think the FDV is the cause of my symptom.
Anyway - I don't know if the TZD is like the petrol 1.6 but on mine I find the belt tensioner difficult to adjust tight enough due to the rather inadequate gap for a lever etc to act on and the tightening bolts being difficult to access.
maybe it's easier on the diesel

does that mean the 17TGD accumulator will not work on the TZD?only a little accumulator to top up
I've used a cro (crow?)-bar succesfully between the pump and its swivel mount, theres a nice gap there for leverage.Anyway - I don't know if the TZD is like the petrol 1.6 but on mine I find the belt tensioner difficult to adjust tight enough due to the rather inadequate gap for a lever etc to act on and the tightening bolts being difficult to access.
my accumulator was from pleaides , my local citroen garage said they've had problems with pleadies ones before, so who knows until i try another one..

-sorry I confused the matter_ - the accumulator (sphere) is identical. What I meant was that a BX without PAS the HP pump is only working to top up the accumulator and doesn't have a PAS system to work too.only a little accumulator to top up
does that mean the 17TGD accumulator will not work on the TZD?
